My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Turner Syndrome Auction and a Freebie

Good Morning, blogging friends! It's that time for Turner Syndrome Awareness and a wonderful card auction containing over 600 cards!

Each card has been lovingly handmade especially for the benefit of Turner Syndrome Foundation. All proceeds from the card auction go directly to the TSA Foundation to further education and support for families and doctors dealing with TS. Lori and Julie Kobular present informative help for this genetic condition that affects only women.

Crafters world-wide have sent their beautiful cards for the auction, beginning February 1, 2024, with the FLY HIGH BUTTERFLY auction and fund raising event!

In honor of the auction, I am providing a freebie sentiment we can all use in our card making.

Please do not sell the Sentiment. Use on any of your projects, including projects involving any design teams you might be on.

Click on the image to bring it to full size. Because of the changes Google Made with Blogger (June 2020), your image will appear to be solid black. Don’t panic. Right click and do a SAVE AS PNG. Once it is saved on your hard drive, you can open it and it will have a transparent background. I create PNGs instead of JPGs so they can be placed anywhere on a scene or project, and so backgrounds can be made using them. Please let me know if you have any problems. I hope they serve you well!

Enjoy!

Please tell your friends about the auction, and why they might consider purchasing a beautifully hand-made card in support of this cause, rather than giving money to a BigBox store. One of my cards is in the auction:

Wishing you all the best as February greets you!
hugs,

Turner Syndrome Awareness Card Auction for February 2023

 Hello, Blogging Friends!

Beginning February 1 at 9AM Eastern Time, the annual Turner Syndrome Awareness Card Auction begins on Lori's Instagram Page. It will end on February 28 at midnight.

Cards are handmade by Designers from the world over.  These cards, made with love, are donated to help raise funds for the Turner Syndrome Foundation in New Jersey, a very small non-profit organization that does big things! The TSA Foundation of NJ produces webinars for the medical field to learn more about TS, helps educate families dealing with TS, and educates others who have perhaps never heard of TS before.  The TS Foundation relies solely on donations, has two paid employees, and the balance of help comes from many dedicated volunteers. Please consider helping by buying a card or making a donation.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email Lori at

mulchlady6@gmail.com

What is Turner Syndrome? Please see below.

I am supporting this cause with two of my cards:

This fun, square birthday card can be bid on here.

More details for how this card was created here.

"Once Upon a Dream" card can be bid on here.

Details to see more about how this was was made here.

Turner Syndrome is a genetic disorder where a female is born missing part or all of her second X chromosome leaving her with life-long medical issues and learning disabilities.  This condition occurs one in every 2,000 female births worldwide, but is more common among pregnancies that do not survive to full term.  That is why Turner Syndrome Females are considered miracles!

Thanks for supporting women with this genetic condition.

My favorite programs Linda has starred in:

NCIS Los Angeles
Kindergarten Cop

Linda was born with Turner Syndrome.

One thing I have learned regarding Turner Syndrome is that there are many chromosomal deviations that cause humans to be born with "interesting outcomes".

Our inspiration board:

My brand new Kitsch Flamingo ink pad was perfect for this project. Being a Pink Fanatic, it was love at first sight with this color. I used a pale pink cardstock, dry embossed it, and smooshed the ink on top. The card base was distressed with the same pink, to color coordinate. A layer of glittery goodness separates the shapes.

To achieve the butterfly layers, I scanned a butterfly definition from the Random House Dictionary from 1950, and distressed it slightly both with the scanner's settings, and with Distress Ink. The edges of the print layer are adhered, with a bulge on either side of the body:

To achieve the "bulge", single layer of dimensional tape was used on the glitter layer, and a double layer of dimensional tape as used on the printed layer. This formed a "cavity" for the butterfly body.

A Pencil was used to depress the area where the butterfly layers are adhered, so the body would sink into that space. Two little hearts were punched out and distressed for the body as well:

The green vellum dry embossed well, and was also used for the heat embossed sentiment. The silver brads were heated up and dipped into the embossing powder to match the sentiment.

Hope to see your card in the challenge!

Turner Syndrome Awareness Set

Hello, my friends! Hope this finds you well.

HAVE YOU NOTICED?!

Google re-instated the ability to click on photos and drag them into your draft post! YIPPEE! So much easier!

Artist Jan Mahew has created a sweet digital release for the 2021 Turner Syndrome Awareness blog hop and challenge, supporting Lori's goal of reaching out to women and girls globally.

This darling set features 22 versatile images and sentiments for a mere $3.00.

One Hundred Percent of the moneys goes to Lori's TSA chapter.

Such sweetness with this little cherub of a fairy blowing magical wishes of encouragement, I couldn't help but use the gorgeously precolored image done by Jan herself, and just add a few more coloring details.

First,  I flipped the image and created a scene by adding the "butterfly wishes" surrounding the fairy. With a Copic Multi Liner, the butterfly bodies were enhanced.  I colored her wings  to match those cute hi-top sneakers. A Sue Wilson die from her Frames & Tags Collection (Daisy Circles CED4238) was cut in half and placed behind the scalloped circle. Then it was framed with SB Decorative Labels Eight die set.

The card is 4.5" x 6"

Happiness is a green and pink creation. The Card is 5" x 7" with the Anna Griffin Flower Bramble background die. I dry embossed it and colored the die cut while it was still in the die itself.

Her wings were also colored to match those cute hi-tops. The card was cut to the shape of the Flower Bramble background.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE:

In the beginning of the Covid Misadventure, Jacky decided to 1) build a green house 2) raise traditionally grown veggies in "growth bags", 3) grow others hydroponically in a vertical manner. I will publish these endeavors in a tab in the future.

Unfortunately, I have experienced a faster progression of the Fascia issues, and the disease is now fully attacking my organs. So while I am passionate about gardening of any kind, I'm limited in what I can enjoy. so it's fun seeing photos from my blogging friends.

We also began raising Milkweed for Monarchs, and learned quickly a completely different type of "eco-system" develops from that adventure. It was fun!

These imposters, I believe, are called QUEEN BUTTERFLIES. Hundreds of Oleander Aphids attach themselves to the new growth, but they don't spread to other plants. The caterpillars munch down the new growth so quickly, that the aphids cannot live very long:

So I am constantly pruning the stalks down to 2 or 3 inches high, and the plants replenish their leaves to a height of about 3-4 feet in just a few weeks. These 2 photos were taken on overcast days. Below is a bush with two visible Queen Butterflies (as opposed to Monarchs) and two visible Queen Caterpillars. Did you know there were "imposter monarchs"?:

Wishing you all the best,

2020 Turner Syndrome Awareness Blog Hop

Hello Blogging Friends! It's good to see you. I invite you to follow me if you are not already too busy on the computer. (smile)

Turner Syndrome is a genetic disorder leaving a girl baby with only one X chromosome, instead of two. These children (and adults) contend with life-long medical issues and learning disabilities. Occurring once in every 2,500 female births worldwide, it is more common for pregnancies to not survive full term. That is why TS live births are considered MIRACLES.

Thirty-six caring Sponsors and nine DT Members are offering prizes to commenters to bring Turner Syndrome Awareness to the Public. For details on how you might win any of these fabulous prizes, please see Lori's TS home page. Thanks for learning About Turner Syndrome.

Prize Winners will be announced February 15, 2020, on the TSA blog. The winner of my personal prize will be announced on my blog after February 8.

My Personal Prize:

My TS related projects are inspired by the TSA official color board:

To achieve that rich black, glossy cardstock was used.
Wink of Stella was applied to the butterfly and birthday word.

A flower on the butterfly's body adds a feminine touch:

Linda was born with Turner Syndrome.

One thing I have learned regarding Turner Syndrome is that there are many chromosomal deviations that cause humans to be born with "interesting outcomes".

Here is the genetic graph for girls and boys born with KNOWN abnormal chromosomes.
Next time we see a person who doesn't seem to fit a "normal" male or female pattern, we need to keep in mind that genetics plays a huge part in ALL OF OUR biological "development", which has nothing to do with a person's lifestyle choices:

After reading the above sentiments regarding acceptance and kindness, you will understand why the word KINDNESS was superimposed on the butterfly:
