My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Spring Is In The Air House Mouse cards

House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge has a fun "Spring Is In The Air" Challenge going, and I thought,
"What better time to use a sweet image from long ago"
(in a land far, far away - like my closet).
The stamp was so happy to see daylight!

Although this is actually a wood-mounted stamp from now-non-existent Stampa Rosa, Stampendous is offering the same image as Bird Feeder HMR19.

Oh Boy! I have BLUNDERS to share! (Can you tell I enjoy sharing my boo-boos and blunders?) giggle.

First Blunder:

Having dropped this stamp a good 6 or 7 times trying to get a print, I finally succeeded with these 2 images. You can see some of the boo-boos because I dropped it after stamping the image. I decided, "Oh well, it is hand-made with love" (more giggles)

The HM image is colored with Prismacolor Pencils and chalk pastels, with a little distressing from Ranger inks.
Second Blunder:

I selected Spellbinders Majestic Labels Twenty-Five (for frame) very carefully because of the wonderful details when embossing the die cut. Then, with my fumble fingers, I meticulously cut very thin strips of black mounting adhesive to pop up the frame. Upon adhering the frame to the base, I realized that I had adhered the mounting tape on the pretty side of the frame instead of the back side! (wry grin). And so, my beautiful frame is shown wrong side out!

Other than that,
it is a sweet card
(how can it not be with the little House Mousies involved?

SNS's Americana Embossing Powder with Glitter was used on the blue leaves.
Those tiny white flowers are the "cut outs" from a die cut used on another project. They are from the Die-Namites Spring Egg Scene.

Here is a flat card (for mailing) using the same techniques (but the stamp was not dropped LOL)
Purple (eggplant) cardstock was used on the frame instead of the blue in the first card.
Clear Embossing Powder was used on the glass portion of the flat card to make the glass shiny - it makes the little House Mousie colors more deeply shown than in the top card. (see the two cards side-by-side at the top)

Thanks for sharing my fun cards!

Products Used:

House Mouse Bird Feeder HMR19 wood mount stamp
Spellbinders Grand Large Labels LF-168 (for the image)
Spellbinders Matting Basics A (5x7) (for outside of frame)
Spellbinders Majestic Labels Twenty-Five (for frame)
Scrapy Land Memory Box Cascadia Butterfly Trio
Scrapy Land Memory Box Leavenworth Butterfly Trio
MS Lace Flowers PAP (punch frame under the image)
MS Floral Doily Lace Trim (for top and bottom)
Die-Namites Spring Egg Scene (for the tiny white flowers that resulted when cutting the main die image)
Prismacolor Pencils
Chalk Pastel Squares
Ranger dye base inks
Sparkle N Sprinkle: embossing powder Americana (on leaves), Clear Detail on the glass in 2nd card, and Sunny Daze Glitter (on butterfly and button center)

Challenges I'm playing in:

  1. House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge has a fun "Spring Is In The Air" (HM image)
  2. Outlawz Friday Coloring Challenge - (March 6 - 13) CPC030615 Spring Flowers (in stamp, dimensional flowers, and white die cuts)
  3. Natalie and Amy's Challenge #30 "Flowers"  (Flowers in stamp, dimensional flowers, and white die cuts) 3/28

Wow, these are really gorgeous, Donna. Nice to see you crafting again! I enjoyed reading about your blunders because we all do the same thing - maybe some of us more than others hehe! However, had you not pointed them out, no one would have noticed - because they are not noticeable - and like you said, handmade with love! You've coloured the images so beautifully and the resulting cards are wonderful! Wishing you well, my friend. Hugs, Kitty

I am always making blunders but they never seem to look as fantastic as yours do on these cards. I think they are all fantastic and love the images and frames even if one is inside out. I am sure someone will still adore each of them when they receive them.

Two Gorgeous card designs Donna, love your beautifully colored images, glad I`m not the only one to drop wood stamps, thats why I prefer unmounted and my Fiskars stamp press!!!
Gorgeous embellishments and would not have known about your blunders until you said LOL..

That first frame looks hideous! You're too funny! I wish all my boo boos came out as well as yours! The image is so sweet with that little guy rolling around the inside of the bird feeder. Your coloring as always is spectacular. The flowers are so life like too. Another stunner Donna!

Your cards look perfect to me, Donna!! The images are so stunning!! You colored them beautifully!! I love the dies you used...sometimes they look just as good wrong side out!! The flowers, leaves and butterflies you added are gorgeous!! I love, love these!!

Just so you know you aren't alone in blunders...the other day, I selected a piece of paper I absolutely loved for a shimmery, flowery design in one corner. I was making two cards and wasn't paying attention and I ended up gluing flowers smack dab over the shimmery, flowery design I loved!! And they were glued with glossy accents so no moving them!! Sigh. I may have shed a tear over that!! Have a great evening :)

I love everything about these cards, especially the boo boos!! I had to chuckle when I saw that you mounted the Spellbinders frame backwards because I have done the very same thing! I think that we get so engrossed in applying the bits of foam tape just-so, that we forget to check everything else! Believe it or not, I have even started mounting foam tape on the FRONT of a STAMPED IMAGE!! Huh??! Anyway, the end result is still gorgeous and that House Mouse image is adorable.! Perfect for springtime/1

Donna ~ This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the way you colored the birds! And I have to tell you that I keep toying with whether or not I need this particular stamp! I want it! I need it! But I can't justify buying another stamp at the moment! I will probably get it n the future. But back to your card, I love the dies you used and the blue leaves! Just beautiful!

Well Donna, see, lots of us are admitting to boo-boos. I once made a card totally on the envelope instead of the card. Then I just laughed at myself, cause sometimes that's what you've got to do. The image is lovely; I remember Stampa Rosa stamps. Jealous of your mad coloring skills.

Wow! If only my blunders would turn out this great! I don't see your first blunder at all, and have to look pretty hard to see the second. I would never have noticed on my own. This might be the prettiest HM image I've ever seen, and your coloring makes it all the more special. I'm just in LOVE with it! I have a few very old HM images and one of these days I'd love to play some of their challenges. You rocked this, Donna!

Donna, if you hadn't "confessed" to your blunders, no one would have guessed! Two gorgeous cards. This is a large stamp to color up and you have done an awesome job twice. Birds are gorgeous and all your lovely details just add to the super beautiful cards you have created. Thanks for joining us and sharing these creations at the House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge. Let some more of these guys out in the daylight soon.

HI Donna, your card is gorgeous, I love the colouring of the image. The little mouse is sweet.. at first I thought "this is a House Mouse stamp?" the magnolias are gorgeous and the birds lovely and then I realized there is a mouse in the feeder, so cute. I like your description of your closet (a land far far away... ) I wouldn't notice any mistakes (still can't see any on the stamping or the frame) if you didn't tell us :) Take good care, Hugs, Shirleyxx

Donna, You are a woman after my heart. Your card is so stunning. Your coloring is fantastic and birds are my favorite. Love the colors choices you used on the birds. Love all the sparkle (I forget to use sparkle a lot). All the dies are wonderful. This is a card you can frame or you can hand it to someone special.

LOL, you had me chuckling the whole time. I can't tell you how many times I have put adhesive on the wrong side. Dropping the inked stamp on my project? Yup, done that plenty of times. Die cut the wrong side up too. Nice knowing that even our best card makers make little boo boos. Card still looks nice even with the spontaneous design alterations.

MaryH said...

I didn't see any 'stamp dropping' evidence in this pretty thing. Also if you hadn't told on the wrong side die cut, nobody would have known, cause it made a gorgeous frame. Really like the way you've used it as a frame, with the image, then the background. Very nice detail. I'm loving this scene too, with your perfect application of products & color. Those tiny birds fairly blaze with summer colors. Stampa Rosa is another company that closed ere I got into this hobby, and I love their images. When I come off my self-imposed buying freeze (HA!) I will look for this one. We enjoy feeding & watching the birds, so this would be an appropriate image for round here. Love the glittered embellies and those gorgeous flowers. The yellow & white flutterby is another excellent accent too. Well done, You! (and I learn lots from cardmaker's boo-boos, besides being encouraged that I'm not the only one that is fumble fingered!) This is gorgeous. TFS & Hugs
