My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Moving Along With the Times - Autumn Colors

Hello to all my friends - so grateful you are here. Wishing you all good health and happiness. Even though Florida does not experience Autumn as other areas do, we still enjoy the colors on our cards. We are still unusually humid (even for Florida standards) and have just begun enjoying temperatures in the 80s instead of the 90s!

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #109's theme is ANYTHING GOES USING AUTUMN COLORS - for the next 2 weeks!

For these cards, I raided all my "old stuff" - and was it fun!

For the monochrome card, I heat set gold EP. A few colors of distress inks were applied in a resist technique for shading. To maintain "STRAIGHT" lines with the inks, I used a 1" mask. The decorative frame is gold glossy cardstock:

For some of the angles, a mask was used to keep the distressed coloring in straight lines:

Using multiple masks, I next colored using distress inks and finger daubers achieving a Fall colored, patch-work quilt look with the same stamp:

Coloring with Masks can be fun, creative and most of all, mistake-proof!

The masking was made easy by using 1-inch "post-it note" tape.
If you have never heard of it before - check it out. It's great for using in the frig, too, to date your left over (giggle).

Thanks for stopping by today!

Moving Along With The Times Challenge - Anything With Wings

Good Morning, and welcome to my blog!
My project today features all "old stuff" from my stash
and even some LIVE butterfly action below!

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #105's theme is ANYTHING WITH WINGS - for the next 2 weeks upload your creations featuring any "winged" theme!

Today's card was made with a Florida friend in mind. She is always upbeat and lives WAY DOWN SOUTH where the sun always shines, hence the bright yellows and golds, perfectly describing her personality.

HOW TO: The background started with white glossy-coated cardstock and dribbles of red, green, white and yellow pearlescent acrylic paints. Then another white glossy was placed on top, and I smooshed. Oh so carefully, start at the corner and quickly peel apart the two pieces of glossy card stock. This fun background is the result. If you don't like the way the paint moved around, put the glossy pieces together again, and smoosh them a bit more. Depending how thick your paint is, you may not be able to do it a third time.

The small "inchies" are from the same paper as the background scallop frame.
The design itself is inspired by ALL THINGS "OLD" -
Old-fashioned "Inchie" shapes were made with an old Stampin' Up! scallop punch. The Spellbinders butterfly dies are so old that they are long retired. It was fun using an old Great Impressions background stamp and old gold tinsel embossing powder.

Here's a look at the dimension and chipboard:

wishing you a lovely week
and
looking forward to seeing your winged creations!

Products Used:

  • Pearlescent Acrylic Paints, Createx Acrylic Paints,
  • Image: Great Impressions Vicki Shrimer Background 2008
  • Embossing Powders: Gold Tinsel, Clear Glittery EP, Black
  • Glitter: Black
  • Papers: White Glossy, Gold Vellum, White Neenah, Green
  • Spellbinders Grand Shapeabilities Butterflies LF006, SB Grand Scallop Squares
  • An old SU scallop punch
  • Ribbon, "Friend Chipboard"

On a Personal Note

for those of you viewing via email, you may need to come to the blog to see the movie. First come the caterpillars - I believe these are the Zebra Swallowtails stripping the plant of parsley leaves - do you see all 9 of them? There are actually more than 20 on the plant. Then a one-minute movie of some butterflies in my front yard after the rain gave us some respite:

I was only able to capture one of the Cloudless Sulphur butterflies:

Moving Along With The Times - Stars and Stripes Theme

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY to my American Friends,
and heartfelt love to all my international friends and followers!
Thanks for your ongoing support and encouragement.

GASP! Today's card has no glitter and no die cuts!

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #101's theme is STARS AND STRIPES - for the next 2 weeks upload your creations featuring any stars and stripes theme!

Today's card is a bit of mixed media, and a collage effect. Actually, I had prepared a few other items for the card, but my husband said he didn't understand the correlation, so I thought maybe others wouldn't either (smile).
(I had vintage elements of a dove, a time piece, and a butterfly).
It probably looks much better like this!

While the US has her flaws (since we are a flawed people), I am so grateful to live here, at this time, and in this place. I am grateful for all the lives over the centuries who made it possible for our country to exist, and for those folks with my DNA who endured so I could be here today.

Probably my biggest wish for everyone worldwide is that they could enjoy a blessed Freedom. A Freedom of both Daily Living and of Sacrificial Responsibility.

OK - on to my card! (those of you who know me, know I can be a little sappy) (giggle).

This vintage flag is the result of a Rubber Monger Rubber Stamp, Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Walnut Distress ink, Caran d'Ache Luminance 6901 Color Pencils, Prismacolor Pencils, and Gamsol. The background paper is pieced together from something found on Google, and the Statue of Liberty was found on Pinterest, did a little manipulation with my trusty iMac, and shaded with Caran d'Ache Luminance 6901 Color Pencils.

Fran-tage Bronzed Mica fragments were adhered on two borders, and the sentiment was stamped on vellum and heat set with an antique gold EP.

Thanks for stopping by today! Looking forward to seeing your projects using stars and stripes of ANY TYPE at Moving Along With The Times.

Products Used:

BLACK AND WHITE at Moving Along With The Times Challenge

Wow! Two posts from me in the same week!
I'm using one of my "own" newest stamp sets - partly from the digital set, and partly from the rubber set. These cards are inspired by my friend Paula D and by my MAWTT Teamie Debbie who chose BLACK AND WHITE ONLY theme.

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #97's theme is BLACK AND WHITE ONLY - for the next 2 weeks upload your creations that feature your BW creations!

The digital set of my new VINTAGE PEONY stamp set has 17 colored and black and white items in it. My cards were printed with the background stamp in 3 sizes, and then stamped in rubber with Noctourne VersaFine Clair ink. The digital set comes with colored and BW versions independently, and also already masked for you so that the words cannot be seen in the flower petals and leaves.

To receive an additional 10% off, please use the code DonnaDT10 when checking out.

Each of my images has a printed background from the above digital set.

Each was stamped with VersaFine Clair Nocturne on top of the digital background. However, the digital set does offer flowers with the background already done, so that the letters don't show through the petals. I wanted the letters to show through.

First is this card with the clear glitter mat, glossy black frame, and simple image:

Second: Stamped with VF Clair Nocturne, and heat set with a black glittered EP. It has a white background, black glossy mat, and glittered interior mat:

Lastly, I stamped the flower three times, cutting petals out and popping them up. The edges are also stamped with more leaves. All the leaves have been coated with a Zig 2 Way glue pen, and clear white glitter (sorry, it photographed rather blue):

The mat is a black glitter cardstock (I cheated!):

The sentiment comes with the set, was stamped in VF Clair Nocturne and heat set with clear EP:

For me, the black-and-white ONLY challenge was difficult, not being able to shade with gray to provide depth. But it was fun! Hope to see your card uploaded to the challenge!

Challenges I'd like to play in please:
  1. Shopping Our Stash #395 "May Flowers" 5/13
  2. World Wide Open DT Challenge #4 AG DT 5/15
  3. Corrosive Challenges #5 Anything Goes 6/3

That Spring Feeling at Moving Along With The Times Challenge

Does it feel like Spring yet for all of you in the northern hemisphere?
We had about 2 weeks of Spring here in early March where everything bloomed ahead of schedule. (I wrote this post in mid-March). Even our May-June caladiums have been popping up since the first week of March! Especially the "Little Miss Muffets" have been popping up prolifically. Yikes! Still, it's a welcome site compared to frosted ice and too much snow...

That Spring Feeling is what I wish for you this week:

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #95's theme is THAT SPRING FEELING - for the next 2 weeks upload your creations that feature Spring in some way!

My card features SheepSki Designs Wild Roses, colored with Copic and Prismacolor markersThe coral color from DLArt Spring Combo crinkled ribbon set was woven through Tonic Ribbons and Bow die set.
The green and Coral background layers were embossed and inked, with a little distressing on the coral done in Irish Spring Embossing Powder which contains a liberal amount of glitter:

The glittery leaves are bursting from the scene (as opposed to the seams).

Lastly, a coordinating corner was created for the inside of the card using the same image:
