My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Lavinia World Dancing in the Moonlight

Hello, fellow fairy lovers!
I have a little gift for you at the end.
In the meantime, my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with all who were impacted by Hurricane Dorian - all the way up to Nova Scotia!

In the meantime...
I'm running away to Fairy Land!

I've always wanted to dance carefree on a tree branch overhanging a pond.
Have you?

My fairy cards today use the same stamps, but the background has been inked with different colors of distress inks, and the sentiment is applied differently. The white highlights are also a in different places. Three similarly stamped panels with slightly changed colors and designs.

Details of our Lavinia World ChallengeAn ANYTHING GOES theme using ANY brand clear or rubber stamp - no digitals. Winner receives
a $15 gift certificate to the Lavinia World store.

While "our" Lavinia World store is located in the US, it ships worldwide. In the US, buy $25 and get free shipping! Lavinia World carries other crafting supplies for your convenience.
My cards are about 5" x 7".

These backgrounds could not be more fun to play with. Fast, simple and easy AND the spark the imagination. I actually "fall into" the story as it unfolds.
These three began identically, but I used a variety of plain old distress inks to change the colors in the pool, the sky circle, and the edges.

Stamps were placed on the background to get an idea of how they fit:

To do the sentiment in sections, I was lazy and just inked parts of the stamp:

I have learned that even with shaking, spasmodic hands that are prone to lots of boo-boos, the white lines still bring out more magic to the scenes. So give it a try if you've never done it before. For example, my hands jerked several times with this card, and it still looks better with the white details, jerky as they are. So don't be afraid to try it:

A panel of purple with a black stripe was added for visual interest:

Using a leaf border punch on two sides of the card:

I added lots of extra purple and dark pinks to this background before distressing the edges with black EP containing glitter.

My favorite is the sparkly scallops:

A darker photo shows a bit more of the purple embossing powder (with glitter of course) distressing the border. Such a fun card:

QKR Stampede and Stamp On it at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies

Greetings, friends!
Here in "west" Florida, we are breathing a big sigh of RELIEF with Hurricane Dorian staying away. What a miracle! Thanks to my friends in the NorthWest who have sent their cold front our way. Now the weathermen are saying the hurricane might just go back out into the Atlantic and spare everyone!

It's time for a new Challenge at Two Crafty Critter Crazies
where we celebrate any project with a critter on it! Critters include mythical creatures, animal toys and everything alive (except humans and flora)!

Our very generous sponsor this month is:
QKR Stampede from Stamp On It

My crazy card features QKR's Hippo Digital Stamp. I've used papers from my stash, some very old lace, woven satin ribbon through the lace, and played with my old Martha Stewart punch. Everything on the card is "old" except the image!

SIGH...

I just love playing with my "old stuff".
In this case, the old stuff was cool, but my resulting card is rather icky crazy!

(giggling despite myself!)

My hippo was colored with Copic Markers, Worn Lipstick Distress Ink and Black Memento Ink.

AND -- my fumble fingers MANUALLY wove the satin ribbon through the lace.
(so proud of myself!)

Wishing you all a lovely week, and I hope Dorian stays in the Atlantic and away from land.

Lavinia World - Woodland Dancing

Hello, sweet friends and followers!
Will you dance with me?
Today's card reminds me of the 60s when we had slumber parties and danced until we were out of breath - kind of like Christina and Meredith in Grey's Anatomy. (giggle)

Today's card is about friendship, and the magic that results from being with our dearest friends.

Today begins a new Lavinia World Challenge!

If you use Lavinia World products, your chances of winning double.

I "cheated" again, using one of the beautiful background papers called
A Woodland Walk.

I prepared the page by first using a finger dauber and blending lots of Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink, shading certain areas, and turning the panel to a bluer cast. Then more leaves were stamped from Creeping Vine LAV295 in Iced Spruce and Shaded Lilac Oxide Distress Inks. The Dancing Till Dawn LAV273 fairies was stamped in VersaFine Clair Nocturne and heat set with clear EP:

Using a finger dauber and VersaMark Ink, the edges of the panel were distressed and heat set with a black embossing powder containing glitter:

My stash did not have the size die needed for the lacy frame, so I pulled out an old punch and cut it in half down the center:

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
Thanks for dropping by and dancing with me today!

Now for my cards!
(apologies for so many photos)

Today's card shares feature "Grace" the Dancing Fairy and "Bella" Grown-Up Fairy. I've never used an abstract sketchy images before, nor have I used a faceless image. It was far easier than I imagined, and I'm looking forward to playing with some of the other darling fairies in the Fairy Reflections line.

First I die cut butterfly wings from the packaging of the Wings and Things Monarch and Princess Wings die set:

This is my mask for creating the background. I dampened watercolor paper, and put the butterfly mask on the watercolor paper, then spritzed with watered down reinkers. I switched colors, moved the butterfly mask, and spritzed more. I also stamped and heat embossed a few small butterflies from the Swallowtail Butterflies Rubber Stamp Set with Pink Lady Cosmic EP.

After spritzing the background, and letting it dry, I created a white frame:

Next, I adhered the entire frame and background to a dry embossed pearlescent background...

...only to determine that I wanted to heat emboss a sentiment on the background. Not sure if the stamped image would "take" with so many layers under it, I was grateful for the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, that let me stamp a few times before applying the EP:

The sentiment came out great!

Some Dimensional Glue was applied and Fuchsia Glass Glitter GG16C was applied. It's much easier to use because it doesn't "fly around" from the static in the air. In the crevices of the glass glitter is Diamond Dust which is slightly chunky.
The Verdi's Waves Flourish is "glittered" with Mulberry Star EP427.

Bella Grown-Up fairy is colored with Copics after being stamped with Plum Memento ink.

The Fairy Reflections line includes stamps and dies. The dies are two-piece sets so the stamp can be cut out, or both dies can be used together for a detailed silhouette die cut.

Grace the Dancing Fairy includes assorted new products from the SNS:

After heat setting with Silver Detail Opaque embossing powder,
Grace was colored with Tombow markers.
I lightly applied color,
and used a damp brush to move the color around.

This technique would work well with any color intensity or color combination.

I will use watercolor paper next time, though.

The Silhouette fairy is heat set with Morning Glory embossing powder (also glittery).

The other die cuts were heat set with Wisteria Opaque embossing powder. It has a bit of iridescence to it.

and a sentiment with Silver Detail Opaque EP to match the fairy:

Tonic's Handmade Embossed Paper - English Lace has an unexpected quality.
On one side, is a matte cottony paper embossed with daisies. Colors from any medium can be added to this side.

The "right" side has a lovely polished finish with what looks like real stitching in lace!

Before adhering the pretty white die cut to the pink base, I wanted to add a little Bubblegum glitter.

Thanks for popping by. For more design inspiration, please hop on over to the very talented Sabrina!
