My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Did you know Silver is very difficult to photograph? No matter what the light conditions, I could not capture the real colors. The card looks amazing in person!

The entire back panel is made using Pretty Silver Lightning EP which actually contains beautiful glitter.

It's a detail EP, so you would not think that a single coat would cover white cardstock so completely, but it did.

The sentiment is embossed in the same EP, and is glittery as well, yet the pretty detail of the calligraphy in the letters is still clearly visible.

First I cut the pretty heart border from white cardstock, smooshed on the VersaMark, and dumped on the EP to heat set.

TIP
when using EPs that contain other ingredients, shake well before using and "dredge" the area being covered.

The effect really is quite exquisite.

The metallic layer which looks blue is actually a silvery lavender - the same color as the little snowman.

Every layer but the metallic cardstock has lots of glitter.

To achieve these looks, check out my complete directions here.

It was fun making this card!

Even the white background behind the woven ribbon is all glittery!

The Reflection (silver) Velvet Glitter
and
the Cloud Nine (white) Velvet Glitter
are both shaded with
 Pearlescent Lavender Brilliance pad.

TIP:

All of the Velvet Glitters can be distressed and altered in color, yet retain their glittery sparkle.

They also feel very soft, and won't come off the card once adhered.

Where the silver and white velvet colors meet, is a narrow layer of glue topped with Sparkle N Sprinkle's new Diamond Dust Chunky Glitter.

The texture of the glitter in the Silver Lightning EP shows up best below, but the colors are much darker than the actual card:

Somethin' Fishy for ABC Challenges

Greetings to one and all, and a warm welcome to my newest followers. Thank you for taking time to visit my little blog.

From what I see on your blogs, it seems most of you are just beginning to thaw out from Winter's Icy Grip. But here in central Florida, we have been in the 90s! Yikes!

The geraniums are already wilting from the heat :-(

About today's card share
(I LOVE the image!):

I **TRIED** to make a more simple card - HONEST I DID - but something in me has trouble doing that.

Maybe I am "broke".

--- smile ---

Do you have trouble making more simple cards? I am convinced it is a skill I must work on.

At any rate, my card share today is inspired by a Florida Stampers swap. We were to use Alcohol Inks or products made with solvents in the inks. I used Tria Inks and Copic Markers.

ABC (All Beautiful Cards) has a challenge this week to create a card using Stamped Backgrounds.

This background was created using white glossy cardstock and Tria Inks (old, old no longer produced). Those were made in the days before Alcohol Inks became available.

After the Tria inks dried, I stamped Hero Arts Petal Etchings flowers in Galaxy Gold, Pearlescent Blue and Pearlescent Lime Brilliance inks all over the background.

It really is pretty, as the paper is glossy naturally, then the pretty Tria ink colors, and finally the pearly and metallic inks stamped atop. Lovely muted background with shimmer and gloss.

Totally Gorjuss Cards has a Water Theme challenge this week - perfect for this incredible angel fish by Rubber Stampede which has been stamped in Graphite Black Brilliance Ink and heat set. A few Copics were used to enhance the color in the image.

For visual interest and texture, glitter is absolutely necessary, right?

and it needs to be shiny, right?

SNS Laser Blue Glitter did the trick and was applied with Sakura Quickie Glue Pen. (If you do not have one of these pens, you ***NEED*** one. (smile)

TIP: Sakura's Quickie Glue Pen is great for embossing powder, glitter and flocking. It is also useful if tiny amounts of adhesive are needed on fine die cuts or corners. It even dries on non-porous surfaces, like glossy cardstock and photos.

Texture Texture TEXTURE - Shine, metalics, glitz, fibers, and a highly distressed sea horse charm. The charm was lightly inked with VersaMarker - two colors of EP applied (see below), and then a quick, light dip into my all time favorite embossing powder - SPARKLE - the charm now looks like something which came from the bottom of the sea.

Also for visual interest, the MS punch around the page was only used on two sides of the mat layer. Two colors of yarn fibers were laced through the openings. The new Spellbinders Curved Borders created an interesting black card base, where even more glitter has been applied.

Products Used:

  • Embossing powders by Sparkle N Sprinkle to distress brass seahorse charm: Pear EP420SparkleMediterranean EP417
  • Glitter courtesy of Sparkle N Sprinkle: Laser Blue G1074
  • Adhesives: Aileen's Quick Dry, Sarkura Quickie Glue Pen
  • Stamps: Rubber Stampede Angel Fish 15218 (old old), Echinacea Leaf (unknown, old as dirt)
  • Martha Stewart Flourish Lace PAP
  • Spellbinders A2 Curved Borders One
  • Cardstock: Glossy white, Black, Chartreuse, Turquoise
  • Inks: Tria Inks (before alcohol inks became available), Brilliance Inks (Galaxy Gold, Graphite Black, Pearlescent Blue, Pearlescent Lime), VersaMarker (for charm), Copics were used for shading.
  • Yarn fibers, seahorse charm

Leather and Lace

Hi! Do you have a stash of partially started or partially completed card parts in a drawer somewhere? Waste Not Wednesday has a great Challenge to use up those forgotten things. Today's card share was a dark brown panel, with a clear embossed stamp image, waiting for someone to do something with it. I wonder who that someone might be? The image is from PSX - remember the company? I used a technique known as Brilliance Smoosh, using embossing powder and Brilliance Ink pads.

The image was stamped on dark cardstock with Versamark ink. After heating, Sparkle n Sprinkle's Clear Detail Embossing Powder acts as a resist, allowing the brown CS to remain dark under the embossed image. The coloring technique is a fun, easy application of the Brilliance Inks listed near the bottom of this post. They are simply "smooshed" on. For small details, a barely-wet paint brush may be used to pull color off the pads, or a reinker.

The above photo shows the shininess of the inks and EP. It's a little difficult to capture with a camera. The Cosmic Copper is on the flourish as well.

The Moon Light White Ink is a creamy white opaque color which shows up nicely against dark cardstock and darker colors of Brilliance Inks.

In this photo, the various colors of blue, copper, and gold can be seen against the dark cardstock, and complement one another.

On the far right of the card,  the ivory Fleur De Lis Borderabilities die cut is cut in half lengthwise.

Thanks to girlfriend Loretta for gifting me the pretty velvet ribbon. It has an ivory crocheted lace detailing on the right of it.

Card size is A7. Click on any of the images to better see colors or details.

Thanks for stopping by!

Oldies in more ways than one...

Greetings! Hope the world has been treating you well these past several weeks.

Just a quick post sharing a challenge card done with a few on-line friends. We were to use only "old" art supplies - nothing new. There could be no die cuts or other "modern" embellishments.

Here I used Tria Inks (from the days before Alcohol Inks) on white glossy, stamped with Memories Sepia Brown. The image is from Stamp Camp. It's old, too LOL.

The embellishment is a plastic buckle which was coated with PSX Holographic EP (you KNOW that's old). Background stamp is Stampers Anonymous with Brilliance ink - both old - yes, so everything on this card is at least five years old. Some of it is more than 10 years old. The sad part is that some of the items are "virginal," having never been used before LOL

Getting It Going Again

What a pleasure it has been learning how to use many of my "new" unused tools, and relearning techniques which have long been neglected.  :-)

At this time, may I especially thank Shirley, Marie and Connie for suggesting challenges? The challenges are enjoyable, and my puzzle-loving self is having fun combining the them.

Long-time stampers may remember this PSX botanical image. I stamped it with VersaMark on dark brown cardstock, heat embossed with clear detail embossing powder and set aside to cool.

Galaxy Gold Brilliance ink was smooshed over the embossed image.

Next Cosmic Copper and Crimson Copper Brilliance inks were smooshed to highlight certain areas. Finally, Twinkling H2Os highlight the remaining areas.

The technique is fast, easy, fun, and beautiful in real life.

TIP: distressing the edges of the cardstock with Brilliance inks carries the shiny look all the way.

This card is really as blingy-shiny and brilliant as the close-ups show. The vine-leaf die cut is from gold glossy cardstock, and it isn't nearly as showy as the Brilliance inks.

More details about the card can be seen in the challenges listed below:

Party Time Tuesdays #42 - Sketch
Mark's Finest Papers - Favorite Technique (embossing)
The Pink Elephant - embossing (dry and EP)
My Time To Craft - Take Two Challenge (leaves)
Heartsong Inspirations (gold)
Hooked on Craft Challenges (die cuts)

Thanks for visiting!
hugs,
Donna

It's that time of year!

This was my first year for making Halloweenie cards, and I've enjoyed coming up with enjoyable backgrounds, and easy images, just for fun.

Here are a few in addition to the Autumn Inspirations blog hop on 8/25. This card used Black Lightning Brilliance ink on the Chartreuse and Black embossed panels. Same ink, but it takes on a different color appearance.

This was easy peasy using Spellbinders Grand Calibur, Grand Labels One, an embossing folder, Black Lightning ink and a sticker LOL (lazy)

In fact, I was so Lazy (with a capital L) that I made several of these easy cards.
