My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

First up is my girly Girlfriend Support 5x7 Card:

To change part of a rubber stamp:

I especially like the NUVO fine (small) Glue Pen which was used as dots around the image, inside the hearts, and along the sentiment to hold the Waterfall Ultrafine Semi-Transparent Glitter. Once dried, the glitter DOES NOT come off.

Made hot with the heat tool and dipped into the Dragon Fruit Cosmic Embossing Powder, the brads match the embossed sentiments beautifully. Each brad was heated twice to create the smooth, creamy texture. This particular EP contains three thoroughly-mixed colors, with a touch of cosmic magic, making it mottled yet creamy. You can see the "mottling" in the brads.

Rory Batter Up Baseball 5x7 Card:

A different sort of "girly" cardRory Batter Up! is quite versatile in its uses as Thinking of You, Get Well, or simply encouragement. This sporty gal is sure to conquer anything she sets her mind to!
I colored her with Copic Markers.

The background sentiment has been embossed on top of designer paper with Glitzy Gold Cosmic Embossing Powder - it's kind of a copper-umber-gold-brown metallic color. Around the edge of the pattern paper, I ran the NUVO Medium Glue Pen and let it dry to become tacky. Then NUVO Gilding Flakes - Sunkissed Copper were rubbed along the edges for a distressed metallic look that matches the EP.

The brads were dipped into Skylight Cosmic Semi Transparent EP for that all-star appearance. Flower centers are embellished with NUVO Crystal Drops (gloss white).
Beautiful Blue Jewel G1113 Ultrafine Sparkling Glitter is adhered to the tag under the sentiment.

Flower Girl - Magic in You Tag (fits standard business size envelope):

This Girly Tag was cut from pale yellow cardstock, inked with Straw DI, dimensions are 7" x 3.25".

Pretty Flower Girl is colored with Copic Markers, surrounded by an aqua halo which has been embossed with Sparkle Embossing Powder

Embossing powders that contain a transparent powder will usually make the underlying colors more vibran.

I wanted a bit more aqua sparkle in addition to the EP, so I ran the NUVO fine (small) Glue Pen for around the edge of the pearl clusters at the bottom, and dotted the glue pen on top of the Sparkle EP around the halo, and added more Waterfall Ultrafine Semi-Transparent Glitter to those areas.

The designer paper background has been stamped with the flower and sentiment, and then heat set with Gold Detail Embossing Powder For texture, NUVO Glimmer Paste was added to the gold-embossed flower centers.

Kaitlyn Mermaid 5x7 Card:

My final Girly card is sweet for any age girls in your life, and for any occasion.
It comes with fantastic sentiments to be used individually or as a cluster.
Colored with Copic Markers, Kaitlyn Mermaid is sweet, kind and happy being her unique self.

The distressed inks across the panel make water, and have been lightly dotted with the NUVO fine (small) Glue Pen for glitters to adhere. I also used the glue pen on the dry embossed background to add more Waterfall Ultrafine Semi-Transparent Glitter. The shells have been entirely colored with shiny, quick drying NUVO Embellishment Mousse.

Nikki Burnette Mermaid Symphoni

I'm so happy you could drop by!
Hello, and welcome to today's project!

Today's project uses the same image in two different ways.

I am featuring Nikki's beautiful Symphoni Beach Mermaid!

Today's Z-fold card is inspired by blogging friend Linda's card at Linda Viche Creates.
Although not as intricately folded as Linda's card, my inspiration came from her layers, fold and dramatic colors!

Three colors of sparkling glitter were used around the image. I surely wish the photos showed how glittery it is:

Ribbon is from D. L. Art.
(She has a free shipping special until November 5.)
The ribbon is adhered until the image, around the back and to the front so that the card can be tied like a present:

Mudd Puddles Sand was used in the corners of my card. It's been applied quite thickly for dimension. (not a flat card anymore).

Here is a tutorial for a more flat application:

A black gel pen outlined the starfish and shell details on the die cuts, then I coated with a VersaMarker and "Hit the Beach" embossing powder. The EP and Sand Mudd Puddlesare color  coordinated, but offer different textures. The black lines barely show through:

I'm embarrassed to admit that the Mudd Puddles are at least 6 or 7 years old LOL.
The good news is, they still applied perfectly!

My second card is an A7 size flat for mailing:

I used the same embossing folder and the same designer paper, however the designer paper is stamped with an old rubber stamp, and antiqued with green to coordinate with my mermaid:

The retired Spellbinders dolphin has been wet embossed with sparkly EP.
Instead of having the currents in water flowing merely behind the mermaid, I have masked in front, and allowed the watery depths to flow in front of the image for dimension:

It's Positive to be Negative Sometimes

A very warm 'hello' to you, lovely blogging friends!

To my friends in the northern hemisphere, have you been VERY hot! Yikes!
The humidity has been in the highest category (oppressive), and our heat indices continues to be 105-110 F (40C-43C) each day.
Even the Gulf of Mexico waters in our area have been in the 90's!
Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Back to card making LOL:

Today I'm sharing a little Dies R Us Inspiration!

STORE
The following Dies R Us Products are being used:
Dee's Distinctively IME-122 Flower Stems (card 1)
Dee's Distinctively IME-125 Flower 3 (card 1)
Spellbinders Rose Creations (leaf) (card 1)
Spellbinders Classic Petal Edgeabilities (card 1)
Die-Namites "Birdhouse Branch" DN-1144 (card 3)
Die-Versions "Happy Day" die

Today's project features both positive and negative use of dies.

The close up of the first card (US - A7 - 5.5" x 7.25") shows that even thin details of the die cut are clearly visible when using washi tape or designer paper remnants in the background.
The corners of the front panel match to the valleys of the borders:

The background panel was cut with two border dies before the washi tape was applied:

The die cut panel was dry embossed after the flowers and leaves were cut out:

Some dies offer multiple design uses. The Sue Wilson Pierced Square Noble Collection has details on both sides of the cut line, so that the negative portion can be used as well as the positive portion:

Shown in this easel card (5.5" x 5.5"):

Even the navy "broken" border has the tiny piercing.

To make these cards:

For the Easel Stop:

Piece the sections together.

Here is the same technique in a business size card (4" x 8.5"):

Be sure to line up the die cut panel with your washi tape to create the look you best like:

Would you believe I actually had to purchase washi tape for this project? I had someone escaped the washi tape craze, until our Swapping Smiles Group decided on a washi tape theme for July!

Hope your week-end is extra special!
