My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Besties With Edith {Scrapbook Stamp Society}

Hello, Friends!
And a very special welcome to new google followers: DarnellBonnie, GEM23g, and Petra Swart.

Today's My Besties card is dedicated to Edith, and uses my newest Flower Tutorial.

(Who is Edith? Click here to discover how you can brighten someone's day).
Edith is recovering from recent brain surgery, undergoing physical therapy, and awaiting radiation and chemo treatments.

Today is also my final "official" card as part of Sherri Baldy's Scrapbook Stamp Society's design team.

Today's card share uses Sherry Baldy's darling "Wendy Puppy Love" image, available here.

She is colored with Copic Markers, sitting in a garden of glitter and Prima Flowers (new Flower Tutorial). There is also lace attached all the way around the scalloped oval (smile).

This month, the theme at Path of Positivity Challenge is all about Dreams.

Lots of "things" flavor our dreams.

Certain life events, education, upbringing, health, positive (and/or unsavory) relationships, and DESIRE are some of the things which affect our dreams.

Having dreams can keep us motivated to constantly seek the Good in Life, even if our Dreams are not fully realized. It can be easy to blame others for our unfulfilled Dreams, or to blame certain life experiences.

But I have learned that Dreams are flexible. They are those creative moments in our lives that cause us to see possibilities. We can make goals to help us on our Journey in meeting our Dreams face-to-face. The important thing is to keep moving and to allow our Direction (and Dreams) to change as challenges and opportunities present themselves.

Instead of viewing stumbling blocks as obstacles, those "blocks" may actually be BUILDING blocks to bring us to a different place, fulfilling an "UNKNOWN DREAM" which has always resided in our hearts.

For me, I would not have discovered the wide world of Beauty found in our Internet Community, had I not become critically ill, and home-bound. I've altered my dreams, and pressed forward, knowing that GENUINE BEAUTY is always beckoning me forward, to the most Beautiful of Dreams. Thanks for being part of my Pursuit.

There is nothing so Dreamy as following the Path, and creatively embellishing it with what is in our hearts.

Such sweetness!

Thanks for stopping by today.

Path of Positivity and Joy

Greetings, dear blogging friends, and new followers Alanna and Becca!
It's already the last month of 2013!
(how did that happen?)

How nice to be a Guest Designer with the great team at
Path of Positivity Challenges!
(challenge # 9 - Joy)

In case you've not heard of them, it's a wonderful challenge blog comprised of "positive" thoughts - regardless of personal belief. All religions, philosophies, and life-sharings are welcome. The intent is to bring some positive "conversation" to share with our cyber buddies!

This month it is all about "Joy"
       - you know -

that deep abiding Contentment within us

                             which promotes

                                            Peace and Well-being

For the first half of the month, Fresh Brewed Designs is the PoP sponsor.

They provided their darling snowman image called "Have a Tweet Christmas".

His Joy is found in "being there" for his friends, in whatever way they need him.
He is also a great listener! (giggle)

The same sketch was used for both cards. The snowman panel is colored identically. But the cards look very unique, even though they are the same shape!

** DECEMBER PRIZES **

The sponsors and prizes for this challenge are:
  • Ten digital images from Creative Bug Digitals for the person out of the top seven who receives the most votes during voting week.
  • Three digital images from Ike's World for the post or project that the DT deems most inspiring of the bunch.
  • Three digital images from Fresh Brewed Designs, our guest sponsors this month, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all entrants.
  • One digital designer paper from Décosse's Dynamite Doodles for one lucky voter who leaves a comment.
  • One digital sentiment for every single person who enters the challenge from Décosse's Dynamite Doodles as well.

And custom Badges for the Top Seven!

The brown version has a major boo-boo covered up by the pine branch die cuts.
taunting with sing-song lilt
I bet you cannot see it, though! (laughing here)

Well, the musical notes and lilt in my voice fit with the "Tweet" and "Joy" themes, right? haha

Love this lace with the sequins and pearls - so girly and "tweet"!

I used Craft-Dee BowZ tool to make the little bow.

Thanks for stopping by - be sure to play along with the PoP Challenge - all you need is a craft, project or written Life Share which has the theme of JOY - then upload that blog post to their Linky!

SNS Winter Wonderland - November 1 Release

Welcome to Sparkle N Sprinkle's pretty golden Winter Wonderland theme tag.

Are you color challenged? Do you prefer not having to purchase expensive cardstock? If so, the techniques on this tag are for you.
My project today uses only one color of cardstock - WHITE!
This makes it affordable while producing an elegant look.

But business first!
This month we are featuring two marvelous stamp sets by artist Rosiland Solomon. The Winter Wonderland rubber stamp set is also available digitally here. The pretty Flourishes Two rubber stamp set creates some lovely, interesting backgrounds.

For More Design Ideas Blog Hop Order

This tag is made from several layers. The bottom white layer has been coated with Gold Detail embossing powder EP168. The layer with white holly leaves is the same white paper. The top layer has been stamped with VersaMark Ink   and heat set with more Gold Detail embossing powderThat layer was trimmed and distressed around the edges. After distressing the edges with more VersaMark Inka little Gold Tinsel embossing powder EP385 was heat set to gild the frame. To further distress, Dimensional Glue was squeezed around the edges very lightly, and pretty Aztec Gold ultrafine glitter was applied. In person, this "three-part" distressing produces a striking effect:

Below, a little Twinkling Clouds Sparkle N Soft Flock SS107 was applied with Brushable Glue. After drying, I colored the sparkling flock with a Tombow Marker, to give the bunny a furry appearance, and shade certain areas for detail. The deer on the left is also colored with the marker, but without the Twinkling Clouds. The only coloring medium was a single Tombow marker for the doe and bunny.
It really makes a difference:

More Twinkling Clouds Sparkle N Soft Flock SS107 was applied with Dimensional Glue in the tree branches for a softer, snowy look.

Brushable Glue was painted on the trunks and some snowy elements in the background. Diamond Dust sparkly glitter G1116 was dredged on to make a spectacularly glitter-full creation. The darker conditions below reveal the shadows of the Sparkle N Soft on the bunny and branches:

The back is not plain by any means!
Once again, only white cardstock was used.
Gold Detail embossing powder covers the layers and sentiment:

Three layers create the ornate tag topper:

TIP: If you prefer not using inks on the inside of your embossing folders, emboss your cardstock and then use VersaMark Ink on the embossed piece. By heat embossing with DETAIL EMBOSSING POWDER, every crevice is nicely covered, and the dry embossed areas are plainly visible. SNS carries over 25 colors of detail embossing powders.

Do you see the 3 layers of Fanciful Flourish by Spellbinders?

The front "layer" (shown above) is actually two gold embossed flourishes, adhered back-to-back with Brushable Glue, so that the gold shows front and back.

On the flip side (shown left) a third Flourish is attached to adorn the back side of the tag, and to hide the ribbon which was woven through the front.

Having the 3 layers provides good support for the tag as well.

The following products were used on this project:

Old Paper Dye Ink
Cardstock: White
White Lace, Ribbon
Tombow Marker Color 990
Spellbinders Fantastic Flourish Two S2-009
Spellbinders Long Classic Scalloped Rectangles LG S4-143

Snow One Like You Easel Card

Hi! A warm welcome to you all, and to my newest Google followers Olga, and "Crystal Dolphins". Hope all is going well in your neck of the woods.

Maybe Autumn has finally arrived in Florida! The mornings have cooled to the 60s (upper teens C).

Today I have a simple A2 size easel card using Sparkle N Sprinkle's cute new sets "Snow One Like You" and "Flourishes One". Smaller cards are difficult for me.

For complete directions to make a card like this, please visit my SNS Gallery here.

I like the tiny Prills in the centers of all the flowers - so pearly!

The image and sentiment are stamped directly on glitter, and colored with Copic Markers.

The background features the pretty, large flourish from the Flourishes One set. Included on the set are the single-word expressions Friend, Happy, Love, Life which are often say-it-All on a card front.

Except for dimensionals, I used Brushable Glue in adhering all the glittery layers to afford a little wiggle room.

The Velvet Glitter was adhered with Super Adhesive Sheets. It is very thin, so my Spellbinders dies cut right through it, even with the protective layers in place.

TIP: in the corners, Mediterranean Star EP was applied. Before heating, a little Diamond Dust Chunky Glitter was sprinkled on top. When I heated the EP from under the card, rather than above, the melted EP firmly adhered the Diamond Dust Chunky Glitter in place.

I'm playing in three great "Anything Goes" challenges:

Did you know Silver is very difficult to photograph? No matter what the light conditions, I could not capture the real colors. The card looks amazing in person!

The entire back panel is made using Pretty Silver Lightning EP which actually contains beautiful glitter.

It's a detail EP, so you would not think that a single coat would cover white cardstock so completely, but it did.

The sentiment is embossed in the same EP, and is glittery as well, yet the pretty detail of the calligraphy in the letters is still clearly visible.

First I cut the pretty heart border from white cardstock, smooshed on the VersaMark, and dumped on the EP to heat set.

TIP
when using EPs that contain other ingredients, shake well before using and "dredge" the area being covered.

The effect really is quite exquisite.

The metallic layer which looks blue is actually a silvery lavender - the same color as the little snowman.

Every layer but the metallic cardstock has lots of glitter.

To achieve these looks, check out my complete directions here.

It was fun making this card!

Even the white background behind the woven ribbon is all glittery!

The Reflection (silver) Velvet Glitter
and
the Cloud Nine (white) Velvet Glitter
are both shaded with
 Pearlescent Lavender Brilliance pad.

TIP:

All of the Velvet Glitters can be distressed and altered in color, yet retain their glittery sparkle.

They also feel very soft, and won't come off the card once adhered.

Where the silver and white velvet colors meet, is a narrow layer of glue topped with Sparkle N Sprinkle's new Diamond Dust Chunky Glitter.

The texture of the glitter in the Silver Lightning EP shows up best below, but the colors are much darker than the actual card:
