My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Easter Spring {Scrapy Land}

Welcome to my project for the 14th Scrapy Land Challenge!
(7 simple, glittery small cards - size A2 US - and flat for mailing)

The Challenge is open from March 18 until March 29.
The theme is "EASTER OR SPRING using any die manufacturer which Scrapy Land sells".  Scrapy Land sells over 40 brands of dies, including overseas products, and many are discounted.
The prize is a $15 gift card - good for anything in the Scrapy Land store!

My cards feature the following Scrapy Land dies.
(for all the dies used, please see the product list at bottom of post)

Accomplishment Alert! (giggle)

The cards are flat! (for mailing).     They are small! A2 size (5.5" x 4.25").
Normally I make size A7 (5" x 7"), so this truly was a difficult card to make in my book. (giggle)

Simple METHOD:
The card "jacket" is white and covered completely with Sparkle N Sprinkle Brushable Glue and immediately dredged with glitter. After 30 minutes, the excess glitter was brushed off, and the jacket was glued to the card base. The Easter dies are covered with VersaMark ink and SNS Sparkle EP.

Next, a lavender card using MS chunky glitter with the texture of mylar Easter Basket Grass:

Last but not least, a double-embossed "jacket", dry embossed with Couture Creations Secret Garden and wet embossed with SNS Sparkle EP, to match the interior die cut.
(This is my favorite)

Message for UK friends

Because women tend to nurture throughout their lives in several capacities - whether they are "officially" Mothers or not - I enjoy wishing all women everywhere a Happy Mother's Day.

Today is Mothering Sunday in the UK.

Thank you for what you have nurtured in me, dear friends, and for what you give to the world community daily just by being "you".

Spring Is In The Air House Mouse cards

House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge has a fun "Spring Is In The Air" Challenge going, and I thought,
"What better time to use a sweet image from long ago"
(in a land far, far away - like my closet).
The stamp was so happy to see daylight!

Although this is actually a wood-mounted stamp from now-non-existent Stampa Rosa, Stampendous is offering the same image as Bird Feeder HMR19.

Oh Boy! I have BLUNDERS to share! (Can you tell I enjoy sharing my boo-boos and blunders?) giggle.

First Blunder:

Having dropped this stamp a good 6 or 7 times trying to get a print, I finally succeeded with these 2 images. You can see some of the boo-boos because I dropped it after stamping the image. I decided, "Oh well, it is hand-made with love" (more giggles)

The HM image is colored with Prismacolor Pencils and chalk pastels, with a little distressing from Ranger inks.
Second Blunder:

I selected Spellbinders Majestic Labels Twenty-Five (for frame) very carefully because of the wonderful details when embossing the die cut. Then, with my fumble fingers, I meticulously cut very thin strips of black mounting adhesive to pop up the frame. Upon adhering the frame to the base, I realized that I had adhered the mounting tape on the pretty side of the frame instead of the back side! (wry grin). And so, my beautiful frame is shown wrong side out!

Other than that,
it is a sweet card
(how can it not be with the little House Mousies involved?

SNS's Americana Embossing Powder with Glitter was used on the blue leaves.
Those tiny white flowers are the "cut outs" from a die cut used on another project. They are from the Die-Namites Spring Egg Scene.

Here is a flat card (for mailing) using the same techniques (but the stamp was not dropped LOL)
Purple (eggplant) cardstock was used on the frame instead of the blue in the first card.
Clear Embossing Powder was used on the glass portion of the flat card to make the glass shiny - it makes the little House Mousie colors more deeply shown than in the top card. (see the two cards side-by-side at the top)

Thanks for sharing my fun cards!

Winter Cardinal {Scrapy Land}

Welcome to my project for the 13th Scrapy Land Challenge!

(special welcome to new Google followers Chrissy Sharp and Kathi Rerek)

(my card is in honor of sweet blogging friend Mary of Carolina Stamps)

The Challenge is open until March 15.
The theme is "ANYTHING GOES using any die manufacturer which Scrapy Land sells".  Scrapy Land sells over 40 brands of dies, including overseas products, and most are at a discount.

My cards feature the following Scrapy Land dies.
(for all the dies used, please see the product list at bottom of post)

This card was so fun to make!
Color the image, distress the edges and die cuts with Copics and Inks, and assemble! Voila!
From my "stash" I used the gorgeous SU cardinal, red silk rosebuds and the amazing Grand Decorative Circles!

Do you ever have an idea in your head for a card, but it morphs into something completely different?
That's what happened with this card.

Originally, the Sue Wilson "edging" on the top was not going to be placed in a diamond shape (but I dropped the die cut after glue was applied to the back, so that is where it stayed!). It actually looks better that way.

Copic Markers were a big help in coloring the image and distressing the die cuts in those intricate areas.

Products Used:

  • Scrapy Land Sue Wilson - Italian Collection - Umbria  (GORGEOUS!)
  • Scrapy Land Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms (one of my favorite die sets)
  • Spellbinders Grand Stately Circles

  • Stamps: SU! "Beauty of the Season" (cardinal) and "A Cardinal Christmas" (sentiment)

  • Glitter: Mark Enterprises Crystal Snow (fine - not ultrafine)
  • Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, VersaFine Onyx Black, Distressed Tumbled Glass
  • Cardstock: White, Soft Blue, Copic Express-it White
  • Markers: Copic B0000, B000, B00, B01, B02, Y26, R59, R29, E35, YG93, C9
