My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Embossing Folder - Back to Basics and Beyond Challenges

Welcome crafty blogging friends!
Hope this finds you doing well, and playing with your artsy supplies.

It's very hot, humid and wet here. Typical Florida Summer! And quite conducive to indoor meanderings in my craft room.

Hey!
It's time for another
Back to Basics and Beyond Challenge!

It's a challenge blog dedicated to... you guessed it... getting back to the basics.

For the next two weeks, join us by uploading an "Anything-Goes" challenge as long as an embossing folder is used.

I'm showing a modern-take on a vintage tag.

Is that an oxymoronic description?

The tag is for a very special on-line friend, who is always so generous with her cards and love.

It all started with a 5x7 embossing folder and Chrome Silver mirror cardstock (Apologies for the poor lighting):

After dry embossing I decided it would look fantastic to add blue coloring to the debossed areas (yes, I did that backwards, deciding to color AFTER embossing the cardstock - lack of planning on my part). To keep the ink in place on this non-porous surface, Clear Detail Embossing Powder was dredged on top of the dry embossed tag, and heat set:

TIP: this was a great lesson because I learned that the Clear Detail Embossing Powder anchored the ink in place AND kept the shininess, but refracted the light enough to help with taking photos!

The die cut leaves were covered with Brushable Glue and dredged with two monochromatic "blue tone" ultrafine glitters:

Fascination G1030 (mixture of blues and other hues to bring out some silveriness)

and

Blue Lightning G1008 (bright bold blue that sparkles gorgeously)

Sentiment is from Pretty Blooms Rubber Stamp Set 873
(also in digital format).

The glue for the glitter dried in the time it took to assemble the ribbon and die cut the sentiment, even on a rainy day.

A slate blue background was punched with an old edge punch and adhered to the tag. Everything else was adhered with 1/2" Tear-ific Double Sided Tape.

Hoping to see your projects at
Back to Basics and Beyond Challenge!

White on White with Retro Rubber!

Welcome, blogging friends! Hope you and yours are healthy and safe.
Today's card share is one of my all time favorites I think!
(are we allowed to say that about our own cards? giggle)

I am swooning in delight to guest design for:
Loving those old stamps!

It's always a pleasure seeing new twists put to old rubber.
This is one of my favorite challenges because my old rubber finally sees the light of day and emerges very HAPPILY! Try new techniques with your old rubber.

The theme this time is "White Out!"

I am featuring an old, old wood stamp that was gifted to me (but has never seen ink) circa 2002 by a friend whose last name is Berry! So cute since the name of the company is Holly Berry - here is their Facebook Page, and another link to the stamp image called "Garden Maze Medallion" which is available in cling or wood (and a sample from their website).

image close up of my card:

Since the theme is WHITE OUT, I dug out something "new" - English Lace Handmade Paper - this cottony paper boasts deeply embossed imagery so detailed, that you can see the stitching of the eyelet lace. It also has a nice sheen giving the appearance of fabric. In addition, the back side of the paper is absorbent for mixed media applications. Even after running it through the die cut machine a few times for the detailed die cut, you can see how deeply embossed it still is:

The image was stamped with VersaMark Ink, heat embossed with Gold Detail embossing powder, and cut out for dimension.
Check out the sheen on the embossed paper:

Lots of layers:

Dimension to show off the pretty shapes:

Gold Detail embossing powder also frames the base image, while Celestial Glitter (gold with transparent highlights) accents the gold frame. Nuvo Medium Tip Glue Pen was applied to various parts of the image and dredged with either Celestial Glitter or Starfire Ultrafine Transparent Glitter.

Nuvo Glitter Accents (Aztec Gold and Fresh Snowfall) were applied in the small gold areas and as large dots on two of the layers.

Here's a peek at the texture:

A pretty gold-embossed sentiment from the Botanical Orchids Rubber Stamp Set (also available digitally) helps personalize the creation, tied with white twine to continue the White Out effect:

The Finished Creation:

Thanks for stopping by. How about inking up one of your beloved Oldie but Goodies and playing along? White on White is an easy way to bring an old stamp to life!

Pretty Pastels {Cardz 4 Galz}

Greetings to one and all! (smile) Welcome to my little blog home.
I have boo-boo's to share - can you find them?

Time for a new challenge at Cardz 4 Galz Challenges today!

Badges are awarded for the Spotlight Winner and Top Picks.
Challenge #53 is chosen by teamie Helen -and the theme is:

  PRETTY PASTELS

show us your Pastel Paper Crafting projects using any technique and medium!
Challenge ends on August 16th.

My card shares today are the results of experiments gone awry.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself during the process!

Card Size 8 inches x 4 inches (Business Size Card)

This is actually an easy card to make, but it might take a little time:

Boo Boo Number One:

A Happy Accident:

Boo Boo Number Two

Bubbling plastic-coated brads:

Either way, the Boo Boos made things better (in my humble opinion):

It brings me great happiness to use any mediums in my stash - especially those which have been neglected:

And now a second card using the Saran Wrap Technique.

The background was made on some icky cardstock I didn't like by painting on two colors of luscious
Jacquard Lumiere Paints 573 Pearl Magenta and 561 Metallic Pearl Gold. While the paints were still wet, a sheet of saran wrap (plastic wrap) was placed on top, and then I crinkled the wrap atop the paint a bit.

Here is a YouTube video with the technique - you can get the idea in the first 2 minutes of the video.

(I changed the lighting so you could get an idea about the sparkle and shine, below:)

Now create the flowers and dragonfly:
