My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Remember Those Cute Bugaboo Characters?

Hello, my friends! Another post from me! (giggle)

Today's cards are doubly sweet - made with fond thoughts of Jodie (former owner of Bugaboo Stamps), and also for a dear friend who loves her little white mischievous puppies! Her birthday is drawing near, so it was the perfect opportunity to showcase Jodie's silly images for a person who will appreciate them.

Copics, inks, paper-piecing techniques, and recycled ribbon comprise this 5 inch square card.

Does anyone know the name of this fun fold card?

I think it might be called the Triple Panel Pop Out Fold?

Anne Buckingham taught me the mechanics in making the fun fold last year, but I don't know the name of the fold. It's really simple to make. Cut a piece of cardstock that matches the card base - 4 inches wide by however tall your card is (in this case, it is 6" tall). Score the piece at one, two and three inches. Fold into a "square tube". Apply adhesive to the two ends of the "tube" - first and last segments - and adhere both on either side of the card base fold. Be sure to fold the card while your glue is drying to make sure you have placed it perfectly on either side of the card fold. NOTE: It was easier adhering the sentiments after the tube was in place. Decorate with all sorts of ephemera, images, sentiments, die cuts - so cute ~ !

Thanks for popping by!

A little Shabby Chic - Moving Along With The Times Challenge

Hello, dear blogging friends!
To spice things up, I have a colorful take on the Shabby Chic theme.
(taking a few cues from my color-loving friend Sue Drees)

My wishes for you all...

And now...

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #91's theme is A LITTLE SHABBY - for the next 2 weeks upload your creations that feature Shabby Chic style in some way!

Verses Rubber Stamp "Today" is the star of today's show. Sigh. I just love this sentiment and would use it very often if I could. Perfect inside or out!

The edges of the blue frame are painted with glue and coated with Ultrafine Navy Glitter. The sentiment is popped up on top, after being stamped with Blue Belle VersaFine Clair ink and heat set with Satin Velvet Embossing Powder.

PERSONAL NOTE: The antique lace is at least 75 years old, from my Great Aunt Agnes's Stash - the lace is from the 1930s when she worked in a hospital as a registered nurse. Because of her skills, friends and neighbors came to her home for help during the Depression. They paid her with all kinds of barter and goods when they were able.

Along with my fingers, I died the lace with Blue Print Distress reinker.

BOO-BOO CONFESSION:
For the interior, I dropped my distress ink applicator tool and smudged ink near the top of the insert. When picking the applicator up, I dropped it AGAIN, so I deliberately smooshed more ink on the panel, and stamped this lovely Penny Black Stamp rose "When I love you".

I loved making this card! Hope you will join us this fortnight!

Tingling Slime! (Dies R Us}{Tiddly Inks}

Greetings, Crafty Friends!
Welcome to my blog for a little Dies R Us Inspiration!
Yikes! This morning we had a fierce thunderstorm bringing an unusually strong amount of lightning and thunder and LOTS OF HAIL! It beat the vegetable garden down pretty badly, but other than that, all is well.

In the Ellis Household, we are celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary,
so today I'm showing a humorous card for my husband,
who prefers Simple and Silly.

(Noooo, I'm pretty sure that is NOT why he married me, giggle)

That being said...

          Have you ever tried combining...

                    elegant, ornate elements...

                              with...

                                        silly, humorous pieces?

Dies R Us  is an on-line store carrying a huge assortment of amazing dies by several manufacturers.
I hope you enjoy today's project

My card uses the following Dies R Us Products:

Sue Wilson Spanish Collection Seville CED1203
Darice Dies - hearts (plain and scallop) nesting dies

We live on a mini-farm, and my husband is constantly battling the buggies and ickies around the place here in central, rural Florida. Hence, the characters of my card.
Wouldn't this card would be so sweet even without the easel effect?

But I liked the sentiment so much, that an easel card was the only option.

How my multi-dies are held together:

(this is what my work area REALLY looked like before cropping the above photo): LOL

Will those buggies NEVER stop?

How to make the border for the "stop":

Use the same border to create cohesiveness on the top panel.
Be sure to distress-ink the border for interest!

I discovered the slug on a freebie site! It's eyes are just perfect for the theme. The clip art site is called Clipart Panda by Ron Leishman

The silly, love-smitten slug has been paired with the cutest ever snail digi set called

Snails Galore by Christy Croll at her store called Tiddly Inks. Would you believe her fantastic 9-piece set is only $1?

I used some of Christy's "slime" behind and round the clipart slug.

Christy, thanks for such a fun image!

Our winter herbs have flowered and are now seeding:

The lush, thick densely-green parsley, suddenly spiked upward with elongated, straight leaves, and then blossomed, barely resembling green Queen Ann's Lace:

The aromatic Basil struggled through the winter but provided lush, yummy leaves. Then it flowered a salmony-coral color, bursting open with seeds this week!

wishes that you enjoy an interesting-but-sweet week-end,
and lots of stamping hugs,

Special Place {My Paper Moon Stamps}

Hello, Blogging Friends! I am beginning to feel a bit better these days and have a card share from last month! (Thanks for being very patient, Becky!)

This card is dedicated to Diane Brown.

Long time stamper Becky Parton owns a wonderful little shop called My Paper Moon
She has her own line of eclectic rubber stamps. I'll be showing some of her images in coming weeks.
  • To receive 10% off your entire order, just use the code DE10 at checkout.
  • Or if you prefer free shipping, use the code DESHIP.

My card features this darling rubber stamp:

The individuals words "SPECIAL" and "PLACE" were inked with a Tombow Marker, and then cut out for the left and right hearts.

The edges of the turquoise layer were distressed with my DisTrezz-It-All, coated with Aleene's Quick Dry Glue and dredged with Blue Nile Glitter by Sparkle N Sprinkle.

3/4 inch Double-sided tape was applied to the borders of the card base, then the heart panel was placed on top so that the white borders stuck to the tape. Starfire Glitter was then blanketed on top to give the borders that sparkly look.

Fits in a standard business-size envelope and will use a single postage stamp!
(See? I did it!)

I hope you will enjoy browsing Becky's shop My Paper Moon.
