My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Chillin' with my Snowmies - Jan's Digi Stamps

I may be chillin' but not with my snowmies! I feel for all of you in the areas where several feet of snow has changed EVERYTHING in your worlds! Hoping your homes are unharmed, and that you are snug and safe.

This darling little snowman set is the cutest ever! I couldn't stop coloring Jan's "SNOWMIES" because they made me happy! The Merry Christmas sign affords a break in the snowmies' bodies, so they can either wear a sweatshirt or be "au naturale"! LOL

Today's cards are for the mid-month reminder of November's Anything Goes Challenge at Jan's Digi Stamps!  If you use a JDS image in your card, please mention it. There is a 2nd draw specifically for those who use one of Jan's fun images.

Snowmies is debuting at $3.75 instead of its regular $5 price. There are 3 charming black-and-white images, 3 beautifully colored images, and 3 fun sentiments in this set.

December's Sale includes all 50 of Jan's Holiday Stamps. Be sure to take advantage of her beautiful 2022 freebie Ornaments 2022!

While there are many fun frame dies on the market, I used one sweet scalloped rectangle die for the outside, and then a different shaped die for the inside, to create these frames:

Also on these cards, I used a freebie "font" called Freebie Font WWFlakes. Instead of an alphabet, you get some 30 different snowflakes which can be made itty-bitty or as large as your font numbers will take you, in order to create all kinds of fun accessories for your winter scenes.

SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU:

While some of my stamping friends industriously make several of the same design, I'm unable to make duplicate cards without it becoming a tedious chore. Do you find that to be the case? Or are you able to make lots of the same card? These are all utilizing the same sketch, so I think that counts. My other crafting deficiency is that I forget EVERY-SINGLE-TIME to set out my papers, embellies, colors PRIOR to coloring, so then I spend a lot of time trying to mix and match after the images are colored. Are you organized and efficient? Or do you fall into my category of trying to find things that look good together after the images are colored?

My only planning was in making glittery frames and using stencils LOL
Since several companies are featuring "flocking, fluff, and fuzzy stuff" again, I got out my Flocking that contains glitter, and put it on two outfits for these cuties.

BF (before fuzziness) giggle:
(psst! the heart brad was heated and dipped into embossing powder that contained glitter)

AFU (after fuzzy'ing up!) more giggles:
(both red and white were used on this card)

Debuting next we have non-traditional in purple and pink fashion statements:

Finally
We have the red-green outfits. And NOOOOOOOOO, these snowmies are NOT sitting on grass. It is FANTASY SNOW to coordinate with their attire, in case you couldn't guess (more giggles):

I hope you enjoyed this rainbow of snowmies. "We" (Snowmies and Myself) were greatly entertained in selecting our fashion colors! Don't forget to play in the Challenge!

A Cardinal Christmas Wreath - Jan's Digi Stamps

December's Sale includes all 50 of Jan's Holiday Stamps, including the 2022 freebie!

Hello, my friends! May this find you well, and looking forward to the upcoming celebrations.

Today is the November kick-off Anything Goes Challenge at Jan's Digi Stamps!

If you use a JDS image in your card, please mention it. There is a 2nd draw specifically for those who use one of Jan's fun images.

Jan's images are easy to use because most of her sets embrace the same style, so they mix-and-match. Jan has a slightly vintage, slightly contemporary way of expressing her memories, and the enjoyable things of life.

The new Red Cardinals set is one that can be used all season long.

In this case I've combined it with her beautiful 2022 "freebie" set "Ornaments".

Each year, Jan's tradition is to gift the rest of us with a lovely new Christmas set to help jump-start our holiday card making.

Be watchful! They are limited editions, and disappear on Christmas Night in the year of their release!

Jan's "Banners and Bow" was created for celebrating.

She has provided both orange and red to encompass the holiday season, as well as the black-and-white version for anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions.

To Make This Project:

First I created a "round ring" in my word processor.
Then I placed the cardinals-on-twig image from Red Cardinals onto the ring.
Select the long twig and small holly bunch repeatedly copying-and-pasting them around the ring. If your word processing doc allows, do a "select all" and "group" everything in place. Add the ribbon bow from the "Banners and Bow" set. Finally, place the sentiment from "Ornaments 2022" in the center. Make your wreath as full or as skinny as you like by adding more greenery (or even copying the entire wreath, making it slightly smaller then pasting atop the original wreath for a fuller look). Be sure to save your digital work in the same folder as your digital sets so you'll find it easily another time.
Below are the images I've used:

I must confess this is a "cheater" card. Jan's gorgeously precolored images were used, and then highlighted for additional depth:

Here is a simple card made using "my" wreath:

Who can resist a bit of sparkle?

Lots of dimension make this 5x7 creation extra festive:

Try playing with your free word processor if you don't have special software, to "layer" your digital projects. Once you've tried it, the technique becomes easier each time you play.

Don't forget to play in the Challenge!

Products Used:  Jan's Digi Images: Red Cardinals 4025 (new and on sale),  Banners and Bow 4015, AND the sentiment is from BEAUTIFUL FREEBIE SET "Ornaments 2022" (will be removed from the store on Christmas Day).     Dies: Sue Wilson Australian Collection "Melbourne" CED 8105, Memory Box Meridian Border 98134 (Copic Markers, Distress Ink, glitter paper, stash papers)

I'd like to play in the following Challenges please:

  1. World Wide Open Design Team Challenge #10 AG DT 11/15
  2. Pammie's Inkie Pinkies #2245 AG 11/14

Tweet Friends at Christmas - Jan's Digi Stamps

Hello, my friends! Hope Life is treating you well. If you live in an area that celebrates seasonal changes, this post is for you! It's all about Autumn and Holidays! Today I'm GUEST DESIGNING for Jan's Digi Stamps! It is the October mid-month Anything Goes Challenge at Jan's Digi Stamps! If you use a JDS image in your card, please mention it. There is a 2nd draw specifically for those who use one of Jan's fun images.

October's Sale is an all-inclusive HOCUS POCUS SALE!

Jan's images are so much fun to work with! I made a monochromatic winter snowbird scene by using the darling vine wreath set below.

First, I chose the blank black-and-white version of the wreath and cropped off everything except the little bird on the branch below the wreath. Be sure to make a copy of the digital before you crop the image. I copy and pasted the little bird and "flipped" the image so the new scene shows bird friends enjoying one another's company.

The birds and berries are colored with dark blue and gamsol.
The twig is the lighter blue:

For a little dimension, a dark gray was used:

The festive holly frame was die cut, dry embossed, and distressed with Faded Jeans color ink. The darling sentiment is from one of Jan's older sets Holiday Sleigh.

The interior uses the Winter Snowbirds again, and another sentiment from the Holiday Sleigh set.

Products: Jan's Digi Images:Winter Snowbirds (new and on sale),  Holiday Sleigh 3355 (sentiments), Dies: Spellbinders labels One for sentiment and Sue Wilson Festive Collection Ornate Holly Framed Noel CED 3073, Caran d'Ache Luminance 6901 Color Pencils and Gamsol, Faded Jeans Distress Ink.

I'd like to play in the following Challenges please:

  1. World Wide Open Design Team Challenge #10 AG DT 11/15
  2. Pammie's Inkie Pinkies #2242 AG 10/24
  3. A Perfect Time to Craft Open Challenge #10 AG 11/1
  4. Classic Design Challenge #10 AG 11/1
  5. The Alphabet Challenge (Oct 7) "N is for Nature" 10/20
  6. 52 Christmas Card Throwdown (Oct 15) Christmas Critters (using Jan's Winter Snowbirds) 10/21
  7. Crafty Friends Challenge #160 Use More than One Die 11/1 (I used: Spellbinders labels One for sentiment and Sue Wilson Festive Collection Ornate Holly Framed Noel CED 3073)
  8. CD Sunday Plus Challenge #96 AG using downloadable products ( I used 2 digital stamp sets, cropping one and making it look like two friends talking instead of being a single bird as part of a wreath. The sentiment is downloaded from another set - both sets are listed above)

Stamping Hugs,

Rustic Autumn Wreath - Jan's Digi Stamps

Lovely Autumn Colors in a Wreath - about the only way we experience Fall here in central Florida! I am guest designing for  Jan's Digi Stamps again today!

(Note: because a Cold Front pressed down from up north about 50 miles further south than anticipated, my husband and I escaped the horrific damage caused by Hurricane Ian with only minor rain, winds and brief power and internet outage. But our heart goes out to our neighbors further south. The devastation we anticipated in our area hit them instead. First Lady of Florida Casey DeSantis has created a special Disaster Fund for Florida's residents impacted by Hurricane Ian. If you are thinking of donating, will you please consider this site which is dogeared especially for this cause https://www.volunteerflorida.org/donatefdf/   To volunteer: 850-414-7400 or info@volunteerflorida.org)

Two layers are dry embossed and inked, and the third layer is heat embossed with an embossing powder color called "Timber". It's shiny brown on top, and from an angle, has orange flecks in it.

Autumn Leaves - Jan's Digi Stamps

Autumn Leaves are Falling - something we don't see here in central Florida!

Hello, my friends! Hoping you are doing well, and that Mother Nature is treating you nicely with her weather and delights. Today I'm GUEST DESIGNING for Jan's Digi Stamps ! It is the kick-off for the Anything Goes Challenge at Jan's Digi Stamps! If you use a JDS image in your card, please mention it in your upload. There is a 2nd draw for those who use one of Jan's fun images.

Today's card features two of Jan's beautifully pre-colored images (with some gray/brown Copic Marker highlights  on my end).

The Autumn Leaves #4010 digi set is brand new, and works hand-in-hand with Jan's other sets, like the Pumpkin Blessings #3455J below. IT IS ALSO ON SALE RIGHT NOW 25% OFF. The digital image was increased in size and only two-thirds of the image was used, with an "off the card" style technique - both the digi stamp and die cuts were used in this manner.

I arranged the flowers from Pumpkin Blessings #3455J at the base of the basket, next to the popped up sentiment, distressed with Aged Mahogany DI. The background is a pretty basket weave embossing folder, highlighted with Aged Mahogany. The wrap-around grosgrain ribbon is a nice addition for the lucky recipient. It's like unwrapping a present, especially with the interior decorated with items from both sets:

This month's sale has 17 Fall themed specials UP TO 50% OFF including new sets Autumn Leaves 4010 ($3), Mrs. Teddy Bear 3595 ($3) and From the Farm 3555 ($3.75)
