My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Lavinia World 19 - The Magical Moments of Laundry

Greetings! A Hearty Welcome to all my friends and visitors!
I have two cards today done in similar techniques but the stamps are used in different ways.

It is time for a new
Lavinia World Challenge!

Details of our Lavinia World ChallengeWinner receives
a $15 gift certificate to the Lavinia World store. Submissions can be placed either on our Lavinia World Challenge blog which has an ANYTHING GOES theme using ANY brand clear or rubber stamp - no digitals. Or you may play in our friendly Facebook Group called Anything Lavinia if using ANY Lavinia Product in your creationEither way, we enjoy seeing your artwork!

Story Line:
I am at Freya's House, helping with laundry today.
Even in doing the mundane things such as laundry, I find

  the magic of gratitude

in my day's moments.
Each accomplished feat is a moment of Life, and Life is where the Magic happens!

To make Freya's House:

Begin with lavender cardstock to pick up the other lavender elements in Scenescape Woodland Walk background paper. Stamp with Twilight VersaFine Clair to make a purple-blue inky color and heat set with clear EP that contains glitter. Distress with purple and pink dye base inks. With Prismacolor pencils (not watercolor), shade certain areas in white, pale green, gray and pale pink. (these pale colors will show up atop the dark ink colors).

I used the green celadon pencil, to make the lavender paper and green celadon pick up the colors in the Scenescape. For a little more detail, use PC1008 and PC932 in purple/pink tones.

Before stamping on the Scenescape, arrange your stamps to be sure they fit:

With CARD ONE, the sweet Snail  helped us by chasing away unwanted critters - because WE ALL KNOW SNAILS ARE SO FAST ON THEIR FEET.

I positioned this card for the photography to keep most of the shine off the house - you can see the house's detail clearly:

Bubbles were stamped and glittered for more interest. Both cards were distressed with a combination of Twilight VersaFine Clair and Purple Delight VersaFine Clair BECAUSE I wanted distinct colors to show in the distressing - not just a flat purple against the green. The Scenescape was distressed with Twilight VersaFine Clair and heat set with purple EP that contains glitter:

When the light hits right, the house is quite glitzy and fun:

CARD TWO has a Popped-UP house to bring more dimension to the scene:

Thinking of You Warmly

FREEBIE SENTIMENT

I have made a freebie digital sentiment for you to use in any layout.

First, if you enjoy the freebies, will you please give me a little feedback about this one? I have made it in 6 colors thinking it might be nice on the front of a card as well as for the interior. The colored renditions have a shadow on them, so they won't look very nice directly on colored digital paper, but the black one will.

My question is: Do you like the option of colored sentiments, or should I not take time to make them?

NOT for commercial use, please.
Use it on any of your projects, including projects involving any design teams you might be on.
Click on the image to bring it to full size, then right click and do a SAVE.
Enjoy!

This little sentiment is suitable for any encouragement, special day, celebration or even just as a thinking of you card.

digi hugs,
de

Jan's darling Across the Miles 603J reminds us that children thrive on receiving snail mail!

Earth Tone Copic Markers worked really well with this sweet little vintage boy in fun blue denim colors. Old Paper Distress inks allows bright colors to be used on a vintage piece, by toning down the bright white areas.

The flourishes are inked with faded jeans distress ink, and the Abstract Square die cut around the map is textured with navy glitter. To darken the outlines of the little boy image, I traced the black lines with a navy blue colored pencil from my Caran d'Ache Luminance 6901 Color Pencils set and applied Gamsol to bleed the color a little bit. The same technique could be used with Prismacolor pencils.

Fellow crafter Marie Berquist shared fun denim designer papers with me, perfect for the vintage "travel-like" denim layers and those cute little corner details.
For the corner embellishments, I followed Desire Fourie's tutorial for creating fun embellishments using 2-sided paper.

The background papers were distressed with Barn Door Distress Ink to add more red tones to the setting.

Today's story

revolves around the fairy who is picking up the pieces of a bloomed out flower. Like we all do, she is dreaming of the new beginnings at the same time that "things" appear to be falling apart.

It's a simple card using Love as the catalyst.
This Love is represented by our heart-felt endeavors.
Green represents the promise of new growth.

White Glittered paper holds the recessed delicate heart frame. Bright Meadow Green Glitter is on the scallop heart frame. The Fairytale LAV389 image is stamped with Verdant VersaFine Clair and heat set with clear EP. Every Dream LAV573 was stamped with Rain Forest Versafine Clair and heat set with clear EP that has glitter in it:

Dimension and Embossing Powder - clear EP on the fairy, and clear EP that has glitter on the words. The Green glittered frame around the outside of the card is popped up with a die cut green fun foam piece:

Glittery Wings pick up the colors in the journal-style sentiments:

If you play in our Challenge BLOG, you may participate using any brand of stamp, as long as it is clear or rubber - not digital.

Jan's TEA TIME set is brand new, and has so many possibilities. I have used the Birthday Cup and the Single Sweet Pea flower to make my card:

The tea time set comes with colored options as well as Black and White. My images have been colored with Copic Markers.

After die cutting, the interior portion was inked while the die remained in place:

A slit was cut along the rim of the tea cup, so the fussy cut flowers could be placed inside the slit:

A "table" was inked in place, and the flowers placed in the slit, with dimensional adhesive popping the flowers up:

The table top and green panel were distressed with the same ink:

Close Up of dimension:

The entire white panel is popped up on this very simple, yet pretty card:

Lavinia World - Let Your Spirit Take Flight 2020

It's a brand new year, and a brand new decade! I'm looking forward to my new journey in 2020 which involves many changes.
It is my greatest wish that 2020 is promising for you as well,
and that good health and love meet you in your endeavors.

Today's FAIRY STORY:

Appropriate to my New Years Promises,
these scenes reveal the act of letting go of the old ways (of being-ness), and grasping new ways as our spirits take flight!

Wanna come fly with me?

And now you know it is time for a new
Lavinia World Challenge!

Today's story revolves around Josie Fairy who is setting herself free from old impositions and thoughts.

By The Way - these cards were planned as Clean and Simple - HA!
Foiled again!

First, we need to create a scene. this involved cutting the sentiment into three pieces. Now it can be used in different ways:

The images were inked up with Medieval Blue VersaFine Clair and heat set with white detail embossing powder. A before and after is shown below where Faded Jeans Oxide was applied to the background stamp using a blending tool to make the edges softer:

Boo-Boo Time!

Not caring for the soft color, I decided to use something darker, and forgot to use with the applicator - so YOU GUESSED IT - it came out with the square edge showing! I learned for the other two cards. Ink the background up, and then use the applicator to soften the edges:

I also wanted the fairies to have more dimension. Using a finger dauber and the same ink colors but with Distress Ink only, the images were highlighted:

It really does make a difference. While it may appear to be too dark, it looks pretty after the backgrounds are stamped:

The sentiment is naturally distressed with "fairy dust" (those are not embossing powder messes - giggle). Because I wanted the details of Josie's wings to show, a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen was used to adhere transparent pink glitter to them. The pen was also used to make dots on the dark leaves of the floral spray with the same pink glitter. The little "spirit" taking flight is also highlighted with pink glitter:

The next card does not have the images highlighted with ink, so there is not the same dimension. This one has a blue frame. My die-cutting errors are covered up with a floral spray - no one can see the mistake:

Her wings were "painted" with glue instead of the glue pen, so the glitter is heavier and masks some of the image detail. Other elements are glittered, too, because who can pass up glitter? More is DEFINITELY more here. While you can see that "rigid" straight line, you likely would not have noticed it had I not mentioned it as a boo-boo in the beginning:

This one is my favorite with those amazing pink leaves and darker halo around the images. The photography is a little funky (dark) but it is a lovely card:

If you are making a card that has a rubber or clear stamp on it, please upload it to the BLOG Challenge site for a great opportunity to win a gift card to the store! The members in our Anything Lavinia Facebook Group are very helpful and supportive, so check it out for more ideas.

Thanks for stopping by!
