My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Germini Ursa by Sue Wilson {Scrapy Land}

Greetings, Sweet Crafty Friends!
Welcome to Scrapy Land Challenge #33!

Theme: Anything Goes Using Die Cut brands sold by Scrapy Land

We love being inspired by your pretty cards submitted to our challenges.

Scrapy Land Products Used:

My card base and the embossed layer on top are both ivory. The coloring is accomplished with inks. On the base, lighter on top, and darker on the bottom. On the embossed panel, darker on top, and lighter on the bottom, to create an interesting gradience.

Inking will produce a reverse gradient effect -
The Base: light on top, darker on the bottom.
The Top Panel: Dark on top and edges, light (no ink) on the bottom die cut portion,
shown below:

Make each card slightly different:

Very pretty. I love that die.

Chaos reigns at my house, too. If I didn't have a teeny tiny place to stamp I wouldn't be happy. I clean in all off and it creeps back. I think it happens at night when I'm sleeping. I think the stuff just creeps back, and in the morning...SURPRISE! We're back!

Love these cards with the soft yellows. My favorite is the "Most Important" photo though :-). That's exactly what I do each time I create something. So maybe I'm doing something right too.

Donna, this card is exquisite! These are not generally colors that I am drawn to but I love this! Love the embossing (what folder is this?) and your sponges really brings out the embossing so nicely. The cut out at the bottom is lovely and the pearl trim on the darker strip are the finishing touch!

Oh Donna! These cards are so gorgeous! I love the Sue Wilson dies that you used, they are so elegant looking, and I love how you highlighted the embossed background with the inks ~ they look stunning! I want to get a chance to craft with you! You have so many neat tricks and ideas!

Oh, I usually just go to step 6 first, lol. The color is beautiful. Vincent Van Gogh would have loved the Yellow Ochre tints. Great choice of die cuts. Well done as usual. I love it.

It's a good idea to make more and matching cards while you're at it, I think that's what I need to do to manage to make all the Christmas cards I need, an increasing number for each year.
And I also love getting inspiration for cards without images and including inking. I'm not always in mood for coloring and I could use my inks more.

Beautiful card and fantastic tutorial. Love the joke at the end. Take care and keep on scrappin! Hugs

MaryH said...

WOW! You've used these dies to the max, Miz Donna! Thanks for showing the steps. I really like the way you've done the ombre toned effect and the way you've used the SW die as a lovely border. Of course the embellishments of the center border added even more glitz & elegance to a totally gorgeously detailed card! TFS & Big hugs. Hope each day is just better & better.

Sue said...

Wow, you have been a busy girl! These are all lovely. The dies are beautiful and the inking of color on each one looks awesome. Nice to see the yellow, gold look after so much red and green. Nice job and thanks for showing us all how you did it. Hope your feeling much better each day.

Sorry I'm so late but things in life really put me behind. I finally made it. Yellow(butterscotch)is a happy color, love how you add texture to the front of the cards and super die from Sue Wilson. Thanks for the tutorial. Hope you are feeling better now that some time has gone by.

Hello, Donna! I'm back in blogland but still so more work ahead of me with the computer. You wouldn't believe all of the troubles I've had with reloading things. My printer will only print one document at a time - to print a second one, I have to reboot the computer. Such a pain! It wouldn't print at all but at least Dell got me to this point. To get it to do more, they want me to pay a fee - forget it! I will never buy a Dell again! Lots of troubles with this computer and printer from Day 1! Enough about my problems! Your set of cards is gorgeous! Each one is a bit different - I like the ornate dies you've used and the beautiful inking! The embossing is gorgeous too! I think you had a lot of fun making that mess on your desk haha! Hope you're feeling better these days, my friend. Sending hugs.

Hahaha, I think I will make a quote sign from you, Donna, about making sure you create a big enough mess so that Chaos reigns!! I love it!! As a pretty OCD person, I'm trying to embrace the Chaos when it naturally happens but I keep a wary eye on it, all the same!

Thank you for showing how you did this really gorgeous card! Now I hope you aren't offended by this, and I know it's because I'm ready for lunch, but when I first saw your cozy creation I thought of a warm buttered waffle with a dollop of whipped cream! Yum, delicious!! Hugs, Darnell

Sweet Donna, these are as gorgeous as your heart! Such lovely designs, glowing with heavenly love and adorned with precious details. Everything you create blesses all who see it. You have a beautiful gift. :) I am on a mobile device so I must end this here, but I was determined to visit while I had a moment! Thank you for sticking with me during turbulent times. Have a wonderful night. :)

Stunning card Donna! Yellow is not a color that I use often but I love the way you have used the distress inks to create this. I especially love the border above the darker yellow and the pearls look lovely against the darker middle strip.

Oh, Donna, what gorgeous cards, and I love the warm yellow! Reminds me of sunshine on a card! I love the dies you've put together and what a stunning result! Wow, I especially love the Sue Wilson Gemini URSA! Stunning border, and being able to use it two ways is a benefit. Hehe! I giggled when you showed us your "mess" on your worktable. Glad I'm not alone! Beautifully done, sweet friend, and thanks for sharing how you've done it...and for sharing these gorgeous dies and what we can do with them!! Big hugs! xoxo
