My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

A little Shabby Chic - Moving Along With The Times Challenge

Hello, dear blogging friends!
To spice things up, I have a colorful take on the Shabby Chic theme.
(taking a few cues from my color-loving friend Sue Drees)

My wishes for you all...

And now...

It's time to share a Project for the new Moving Along With The Times Challenge!

Challenge #91's theme is A LITTLE SHABBY - for the next 2 weeks upload your creations that feature Shabby Chic style in some way!

Verses Rubber Stamp "Today" is the star of today's show. Sigh. I just love this sentiment and would use it very often if I could. Perfect inside or out!

The edges of the blue frame are painted with glue and coated with Ultrafine Navy Glitter. The sentiment is popped up on top, after being stamped with Blue Belle VersaFine Clair ink and heat set with Satin Velvet Embossing Powder.

PERSONAL NOTE: The antique lace is at least 75 years old, from my Great Aunt Agnes's Stash - the lace is from the 1930s when she worked in a hospital as a registered nurse. Because of her skills, friends and neighbors came to her home for help during the Depression. They paid her with all kinds of barter and goods when they were able.

Along with my fingers, I died the lace with Blue Print Distress reinker.

BOO-BOO CONFESSION:
For the interior, I dropped my distress ink applicator tool and smudged ink near the top of the insert. When picking the applicator up, I dropped it AGAIN, so I deliberately smooshed more ink on the panel, and stamped this lovely Penny Black Stamp rose "When I love you".

I loved making this card! Hope you will join us this fortnight!

This is a fabulous card. I love the navy glitter. Your embellishments and dies are beautiful. The story about Agnes was so true of people back then. Helping each other when they could and not expecting money in return. You covered up your boo boo so well it looks great. That's what is called a happy mistake. [Bunny]`

Wow Donna this is so gorgeous. Such beautiful colours & layout. I wouldn't want to give it away, especially with that very antique lace on. You are so honest when you make mistakes but rectify them brilliantly & beautifully.
I have emailed you with your question you left on my blog.

What an adorable creation Donna, blue and yellow is a colour palette I particularly love, it compliments so well and what can I say about that lace other than oh so special.

All in all a very beautiful creation, many thanks for joining in with our February theme at Stamping Sensations challenge.

I do so love blue and yellow together, love the small print on the paper, Lovely sentiment, and great sparkle framing of it! Love the border punches in the two colors. Beautiful job on the flower and the tulle behind it, with those sparkle leaves is just wonderful combo. I love the story behind the lovely lace you used, that is great that your great Aunt helped people in the depression. You did a wonderful job with fixing your boo boo on the inside!

I love your take on shabby chic, Donna! Colorful and glittery and just a little bit shabby. So pretty with the antique lace and flowers and the pearls and feather. I just love everything about it! Inside is absolutely gorgeous with the smudges of ink and the roses stamped in blue. In my past life I did a lot of shabby chic and I still think it's beautiful. I have a lot on my plate at the moment, but if I can fit it in I'd love to have a go at it. We'll see. Hugs!
