My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Monochromatic Theme at Christmas at Sweet Stampin' Challenge

Good Morning, fellow crafters!
I'm starting the day with lots of glitter - are you surprised?
Please see my STAMPING ON GLITTER TUTORIAL HERE.

Today begins a new challenge at
Christmas at Sweet Stampin'!

My marvelously brilliant teammates have fantastic samples to share! We hope to see your imaginative artwork each month in our "Anything Goes Christmas" Challenges. The challenge is for ANY Christmas theme craft project. April's Challenge is open until May 7 and has an option of monochromatic theme.

Technique: STAMPING ON GLITTER

if you're reading on my blog, enlarge the photos by clicking on them:

BOO BOO TIME

Having watercolored with this technique frequently, I was surprised at a huge boo-boo this card ended up having. Where the "crack and peel" portion of the sticker paper had been, some watercolor puddled there, leaving a visible line:

After waiting overnight, and the line not disappearing, I tried fixing it by hiding part, and adhering the other part. You can still see it a little bit when the light hits just "so":

The brads were dipped into the same pretty Mediterranean Star embossing powder as the frame.

To customize the "snowy" background, I used the same ink as the sentiment on an embossing folder:

All Done! It's quite sparkly in person:

Some Products Used:
Images: Penny Black Winter Song, SU Beauty of the Season, GlitterCloud Nine Microfine Glitter, Inks: Staz-On Azure Blue Ink, Adirondack Pool, Warm Breeze VersaFine Clair, EPMediterranean Star embossing powder, Dies: Surprise Creation Polygon Square Double Stitch die set, SB Grommet Tag Set

Beautiful winter scene Donna! I love all the sparkles and that beautiful blue! I would never have noticed the boo if you hadn't mentioned it, but you covered up beautifully! Sometimes mistakes turn out to be great! Love those kind of surprises!!

Donna that is so very beautiful and sure looks like a wintery day...much like I am seeing outside my window right now. The colors and glittery look is perfect.

I know this has to be fantastically sparkly in real life! It looks pretty WOW on my screen, and I really wouldn't have noticed your boo boo after your fix. A very chilly scene, but beautiful in its own right, just like the quote says. Speaking of beautiful, I love your photo with the early morning sun rays shining down on the open grassy area. I see this on sunny mornings, but at my house it falls through a tangle of trees. Gorgeous!

Oh I can only imagine how beautifully sparkly it is in person. that stamps is just beautiful for this technique and I would say you have done an amazing job of hiding your boo boo. Like how you even embossed your brads! Attention to every detail !
I love the sun rays coming through the trees, it always gives me chills to see that, makes me think of God and how his light shines down on us, even when we don't think it is.

Wow, very beautiful card Donna! It must sparkle so in real life. The seam line is well hidden and the little bit that one sees since you pointed it out, looks quite like a horizon line.

Wow, I think everything about this card is so stunning in its monochromatic form! The image is stunning and of course, who knew to stamp on the glitter!! Now, Ms. Donna, I must give this a try! The hiding of the "boo boo" is perfect and something that I do quite often it seems like! LOL! The background and everything about this is stunning my friend!! P.S. LOVE your sun photo and I love the birds signing at me too! :) HUGS

What a great technique, Donna! Great save with the "line" of course I had to read about it or would never had noticed!! That really is a gorgeous little image. I'm sure it is a real sparkler IRL!!

Donna Phelan said...

Certainly a beautiful card, boo boo and all! I think that line works well, it adds a bit more depth and dimension by creating a shadow off in the distance. I think you should have just kept the secret, n o one would have even known! It's a beautiful creation, yes for Christmas or for a Cape Cod Spring....although today the temps are in the 50's...rainy and overcast, but yet some warmth for a change! YAY! FAB creation, Donna!!!

Love the Wintry scene stamped on the glitter and to be honest I thought it was part of the watercolour effect.

Oh, Donna, what magnificent layers! Loving the glitter and the perfect sentiment. The fibers really add to the holiday feel. I've finally colored my first Christmas image but have yet to turn it into a card. I'm getting a late start this year but this card of yours inspires me. :-D
