Emboss It! {Scrapy Land Challenge}

pssst! I have blog candy! Visit here.

Hi, everyone! Waving enthusiastically from hot hot HOT, humid Central Florida!

It is time for the 2nd All-New Scrapy Land Challenge! The Challenge is open until September 28. The theme is ANY die manufacturer which Scrapy Land sells AND must use embossing powder twist. Scrapy Land sells well over 40 manufacturers of dies, and most are at a great discount!

Dies sold by Scrapy Land used to create this card:

*Spellbinders Fair Isle Pendant S4-270 (3 of the dies used)

*Spellbinders Octagons (for sentiment)

*Impression Obsession Border Duo Two (2 dies used)

*Impression Obsession Snowflakes

Inks and embossing powders were used to embellish each one of the layers.

VersaMark Ink smooshed on the surfaces of the die cuts is easy to apply. The embossing powder is perfect for covering up any mistakes!

It was difficult photographing this card because of the textures. Here is the actual soft coloring:

The Impression Obsession Snowflakes cut through a Planters Peanuts can liner - it is thinner than canned sodas, but heavier than most foils. The snowflakes were cut in half and pieced around the bow (ribbon is died with the same color ink "cool peri").

The following photo is dark, but showcases the difference in EP textures in the pennant versus the lace backgrounds. The formulas are shown further down in this post.

HOW THIS CARD WAS MADE:

Before EP and After EP with Mica Powder on Border Die Cut:
boo-boo time confession:  originally I was going to highlight the ovals in the die cuts, but I could not control the shaking in my hand, causing blobs of color. The panel covered with EP also had those same blobs at the bottom left, but they are scarcely noticeable, even with this slightly semi-transparent EP on top!
Here is the difference between adding EP (bottom) and before the EP.
The bottom panel is 1 part clear EP with an equal part of white mica powder

and a touch of glitter.

Before EP and After EP with Glitter instead of Mica Powder on Fair Isle Pendant Die Cut:

Instead of Mica Powder, the panel on right was coated with  1 part of clear embossing powder 3/4 part glitter.

The scallop border is part of the Border Duo die which is 7.25" long.
It has been inked with the same color Cool Peri lavender dye-base ink,
smooshed with VersaMark Ink and embossed with
the same EP formula as the pendants.
I paper pierced just outside the two borders, using a plastic canvas piece as a guide.
Next...

The sentiment is from the Anna Griffin "Send a Celebration" sentiments set. It is heat embossed with SNS Concord Star EP:

I wish you could see the holographic prettiness embossed into these powder formulas!

Products Used:

  • Scrapy Land Spellbinders Fair Isle Pendant S4-270
  • Scrapy Land Spellbinders Octagons (for sentiment)
  • Scrapy Land Impression Obsession Border Duo Two
  • Scrapy Land Impression Obsession Snowflakes
  • Anna Griffin Send a Celebration Sentiments
  • cardstock: white, purple, metallic lining from a peanut jar (snowflakes)
  • Embossing Powders: two white/clear EP formulas, and one SNS Concord Star detail EP.
  • Rhinestone flourishes (adhered with glue because the adhesive on them will not stick to EP very well)

Fun Challenges This Card is submitted to:

  1. NBUS - Never-Before-Used-Schtuff) #2 -  9/25 Spellbinders Fair Isle Pendant S4-270 (3 of the dies used it is YEARS AND YEARS old and not ever been used) and Impression Obsession Border Duo Two (probably a year old and never used) and some white mica powder in an unopened jar mixed with the clear EP and glitter to create a unique EP color.
  2. 613 Avenue Create - #89 Anything Goes 9/19
  3. Crafting When We Can - #78 Christmas Come Early 9/26
  4. Paper Creator's Crafts - #29 Early Christmas 9/18
  5. Crafting at the Week-end - #5 Anything Goes 9/27
As always, thank you for stopping by! I hope everything is going well in your little part of the world!
hugs,

Wait, did you say "peanut can liner?" Seriously? How on earth do you come up with these GENIUS ways to use what most of us would consider "recyclables?" (A polite word for trash.) You are easily the most creative soul I know. I wouldn't in a gozillion years think of using a peanut can liner to punch such elegant snowflakes. The rest of this card is equally as exquisite and showcases those snowflakes to perfection. Darling, you have outdone yourself. Lavender, silver and white with the added bonus of sparkles and rhinestones equals BRILLIANTLY GORGEOUS. Peanut can liner...who knew? Hugs sweetie!!

No blobs or boo boos here! I see nothing but awesomeness! Love these pretty soft colors and subtle sparkle for your gorgeous Christmas card, and very cool that you cut the snowflake from metal. I'll have to try that sometime. I never cease to marvel at how you can make a single card so full of special touches and parts, yet it never looks like too much. Always just right. You're a master, Donna!

Another beautiful card. I didn't know you could mix embossing powder with glitter or mica (I'm assuming something like pearl-ex?). I will have to give it a try. I have a ton of pearl-ex. Let me know if this isn't correct. I always feel like a mad scientist when it's time to experiment. Bwah hah hah....

Simply stunning, everything you did on this beautiful card. I was smiling as I looked at the recipe, thinking "I've got that one". It's been a while since I saw the S/B Fair Isle used & never so lovely as what you've done with it on this awesome card. Loved the way you've combined the dies to create such a sparkly effect, and I truly appreciate the time you spent in detailing the instructions. This is simply marvelous Miss D. Love, Love it! TFS & Hugs. HOpe I can find time to play along at Scrappy Land again.
