My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

Sparkly Pink Butterflies

Do you ever wonder why we torment ourselves? (or am I the only one?)

(see also Velvet Glitter Butterflies using the same technique, here)

I'm in love with Cloud Nine Velvet Glitter, and all the techniques which look so pretty with it, that I've been making more for make 'n takes.

So where's the torment?

Ugh! Photographing glitter and embossing powder is pure torture! LOL
Painting with Watercolors has never been easier!

  Custom embellishments:
  • use the same color cardstock in the die cuts,
  • paint a bit of matching watercolors on them, and
  • coat with embossing powders.

The Winter White Cosmic embossing powder offers a chance to DISTRESS with sparkling, creamy EP. (on the flower petals). The cardstock color peeks through the distressed EP, but is still slightly "icy" in appearance.

The Memory Box Fuchsia Sprig and Cheery Lynn Tropical Flourish are both cut from pink cardstock, watercolored a bit, and then coated with VersaMark ink and creamy, pearly SNS Opaline Cosmic Embossing Powder. (The Cosmic line is really quite magical). Creamy - Pearly - So Soft looking!

Here is a close up of the distressed flower petals, the now-pearly flower center, and the pearly flourish.

The Opaline Cosmic EP is gorgeous - one of my favorites. Used on the el-cheapo brad (flower center), it now appears to match the pink pearl swirls.

Embossing Powders can completely change the look of ordinary die cuts and papers.

The cheapest, ugliest cardstock in your stash can be transformed into beautiful designer style paper.

A simple sentiment finishes the card.

My gosh - you've done it again! This is so, so pretty Donna, I just love how you coordinated all the embellishments to the colors of the butterflies. It's another work of art! Gotta love that Cloud Nine!

Hello Donna
Thank You for visiting my blog and your lovely comment.
I definitely relate! At the weekend I was photographing DT cards and the sparkle just would not show up so today I intend to try once again. I also have an issue when photographing photo real images as sometimes they will reflect the surrounding texture creating lots of issues for me.
This is just brimming with prettiness. As you have stamping on your card I am sure it would be suitable as an entry for Fashionable Stamping Challenge's To Die For challenge this fortnight.
Wishes
Lynne

Those butterflies are GORGEOUS! I feel you with the photographing glitter. Why does it have to be so hard? LOL! Nothing is more frustrating than seeing your gorgeous shimmery project look like there is not one speck of sparkle through the lens! You are not alone - I find it super tough too - LOL! I always say...TRUST ME - The Glitter is there! Thank you so much for playing along with us this week at Loves Rubberstamps!

And you know I'm with you TOTALLY on the torment! Love the sparkle, but dozens & dozens of pictures to try to capture it is soooo frustrating - you know I'm with you on that!!!! At least the results are so worth it! :-)

Oh I feel your pain, it drives me crazy that the glitter doesn't show up. Imagine how rich someone would be if they could figure out how to do it?
None the less your card is Gorgeous!

Oh, am I ever loving this one! Your colors are soft! And I'd say you got the photography right on! It is difficult to photo glitter and have the recipient actually appreciate the "real" thing. Great job, De!

I agree about the torment of photographing glitter and embossing. There is no way to show how utterly gorgeous this is in real life, but I can well imagine. Your photographs are a great representation, certainly enough to make me swoon. Beautifully done!

I agree that you just can't capture the beauty of glitter or reflective mediums, but we know it is there! These butterflies are over the top gorgeous! Thank you for joining us at Fashionable Stamping Challenges!
