Help? Email Subscription Services?

Hi, Blogging Friends. Google is making a huge change to those of us who have a FOLLOW BY EMAIL option via blogger gadgets. They are DISCONTINUING the option in a few months. Here is the letter I received:

FeedBurner has been a part of Google for almost 14 years, and we're making several upcoming changes to support the product's next chapter. Here’s what you can expect to change and what you can do now to ensure you’re prepared.

Starting in July, we are transitioning FeedBurner onto a more stable, modern infrastructure. This will keep the product up and running for all users, but it also means that we will be turning down most non-core feed management features, including email subscriptions, at that time.

For those who use FeedBurner email subscriptions, we recommend downloading your email subscribers so that you can migrate to a new email subscription service.

For many users, no action is required. All existing feeds will continue to serve uninterrupted, and you can continue to create new accounts and burn new feeds. Core feed management functionality will continue to be supported, such as the ability to change the URL, source feed, title, and podcast metadata of your feed, along with basic analytics.

My questions are:

Do you use an email subscription service presently?

If so how much is it and do you like it?

Thank you!
hugs,
de

The very same questions I have Donna, I always knew the day would come when Google added charges but they are not making it very apparent what they are.

Certainly at the challenge blogs we have a lot of followers via e.mail so undoubtedly they are going to be affected and I can't suss out as yet if it will will mean changes for the DT's getting notifications from the private DT blogs. Again there's not much information available.

I wonder how it will affect the email notifications to DT members on the 2 challenge blogs I manage but the information given in the Google letter left me with more questions than answers. If anyone can figure it out and/or has a good work-around, I'd love to hear about it.
I also wonder if our challenge entries will drop without email notifications when the new challenges are posted.

I got that notice too. I don’t really understand it. Mostly I rely on getting email notifications of blog posts so it might mean I will miss a lot of my friends in blogger land. That makes me sad. It was so convenient for me to get them by email.

I received that email also, wasn't quite sure what it all meant but right now the blogs that I don't get by email I get through bloglovin, they send me an email with the updated posts to blogs, you just type the blog you want in and then say follow and have them send you email updates every day. Guess I had better go and get the ones I normally get through email onto that feature.

Well I just checked and bloglovin is part of google so does that mean that will not work either now?

I also got that email, Donna, and I'm in the same boat, not really knowing how to go forward and how deeply this is going to affect us, our followers, and our DT's.
If you get any information that may help, please do share. Thanks bunches, my friend.
Hugs,
Lena

Hi Donna, I too received the notification about this and I haven't a clue what it means, I don't think it will affect me. I,m seeing it might be a pain for challenge blogs though, I hope you will be able to make sense of it, Kate x

I got this message as well and didn't understand it. I hope it doesn't affect me although I don't comment via email at the moment.

I just learned of this, but I didn't get an email. I have two blogs on Feedburner and don't know what I'll do. I have long been an advocate of Feedly for following blogs. Everything in one place, and you can easily make categories and add new blogs. It's much tidier than receiving all the emails, but I'm surprised by how many people use the email subscription option. I'm sure most of my followers will not want to make a change.

Hi, Donna! Thanks for bringing this up. I follow a number of blogs by email but I found I wasn't receiving the Feedburner emails most of the time, so I would end up reading my blog feed through my dashboard (when I'm online). I also have links to many of my favourite blogs on my blog itself. I know a few people follow my blog with Feedburner so I'm not sure what those people will do. I am finding Blogger to be more and more of a pain all the time, and it's taking the fun out of blogging. I look forward to any update you have on this issue. Hope you are staying well, my friend. I haven't been blogging lately but I made some cards last week and soon need to post them. Sending lots of hugs your way!

Donna thank you for the heads up. I too had the message but I had no idea what it meant. You are always so kind and generous with sharing your knowledge and I appreciate it x.

Hi Donna. Well, I am a heavy user of this function as you know, lol. Part of me is in denial, the other part is like, bring it on. However it shakes out will be better. The Alphabet parent company is saying time to monetize or drop the freebies. This means we're all on borrowed time with Bloglovin' and our gmail accounts. Right now 95% of my email is from challenges' new blog posts. I have a 7-page spreadsheet of them all, so I'm good there. I'll just work from my sheets. The people whose blogs I follow via email, guess I'll just make a list of them in my Chrome bookmarks. Already seeing the UPSIDE, which is a lot less emails to wade through. Now, if I could just take less photos of my projects and quit talking so much in my blog posts, I'd have even MORE free time and be even more free of Google, LOL. Hugs! XOX

What I understood from the information that I gathered from reading this is that one has to move to a service like MailChimp or similar. That is the service I will look into for my blog and see if just a copy of the html of the blog post from the editor into MailChimp will work for the email creation. MailChimp is free for up to 2000 subscribers.
The downside I see here for subscribers, is that this change is going to depend on the blog owner migrating their list to the service and is not something that the subscriber can do for themselves.
Still needs some research...
Hugs Monica

thanks, Monica. I have heard of other people using Mail Chimp as well. It's another option for people who want to continue offering that service to their blog. It also means a 3rd party platform having all the information for our subscribers, as far as privacy. hugs, de
