My blog is called "Creative Smiles" because my designs are the result of incorporating mistakes. With fumble fingers that drop whatever they are holding - repeatedly, it takes a lot of giggles, smiles and creative patience during my crafting process. xx

ONE WEEK LEFT for Turner Syndrome Awareness Blog Hop and Challenge!

  Hello, Blogging Friends!

ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT - for the Third Annual
This  year we have added a Card Challenge so that crafters can help spread the word, and enjoy opportunities of winning more prizes!

To view my prizes, please visit my blog post.

For more information, please see Lori's TS home page.

Turner Syndrome is a genetic disorder where a female is born missing part or all of her second X chromosome leaving her with life-long medical issues and learning disabilities.  This condition occurs one in every 2,000 female births worldwide, but is more common among pregnancies that do not survive to full term.  That is why Turner Syndrome Females are considered MIRACLES!

DID YOU KNOW:

Living with Turner Syndrome: Linda Hunt

I am an appreciative fan of movie star
Linda Hunt
whose roles are always character-rich.

My favorite programs Linda has starred in:

NCIS Los Angeles
Kindergarten Cop

Linda was born with Turner Syndrome.

One thing I have learned regarding Turner Syndrome is that there are many chromosomal deviations that cause humans to be born with "interesting outcomes".

Our inspiration board:

My brand new Kitsch Flamingo ink pad was perfect for this project. Being a Pink Fanatic, it was love at first sight with this color. I used a pale pink cardstock, dry embossed it, and smooshed the ink on top. The card base was distressed with the same pink, to color coordinate. A layer of glittery goodness separates the shapes.

To achieve the butterfly layers, I scanned a butterfly definition from the Random House Dictionary from 1950, and distressed it slightly both with the scanner's settings, and with Distress Ink. The edges of the print layer are adhered, with a bulge on either side of the body:

To achieve the "bulge", single layer of dimensional tape was used on the glitter layer, and a double layer of dimensional tape as used on the printed layer. This formed a "cavity" for the butterfly body.

A Pencil was used to depress the area where the butterfly layers are adhered, so the body would sink into that space. Two little hearts were punched out and distressed for the body as well:

The green vellum dry embossed well, and was also used for the heat embossed sentiment. The silver brads were heated up and dipped into the embossing powder to match the sentiment.

Hope to see your card in the challenge!

You made some interesting choices that I had not thought of or seen before. Embossing a paper, then putting it through a die was clever and added more interest and texture to each piece. Clever to use a dictionary page in the background. Love the card. It is beautiful. Thanks for sharing it.

So good to see you creating :) I love all the layers of the butterfly and the little hearts on his body. Great idea to use the definition for the background, I bought a dictionary just to do that and haven't used it as much as I should be ;) I do love the new pink too, can't go wrong with pink and green!

OMGoodness, Donna, this card is stunning! Absolutely beautiful! I love the big butterfly and all the layers, especially the dictionary page. I'm hoping to get Kitsch Flamingo too - I know it will be a favourite as pink is my favourite colour! Love your inking of the embossing folder and of course I love the sparkle too! This is a beauty! And for such a great cause too! I recognize Linda Hunt; I did not know she had TS. She's awesome, and so are you! I also want to thank you for all of the sweet comments you have left on my blog lately. I was especially touched and want to thank you for your kind words of sympathy on the loss of our Snowie. Brian and I really appreciate it. He read everyone's comments as well. Snowie was Brian's cat and she always cuddled with him when he was resting so he is really struggling with the loss. Thank you for your kindness.

Hugs,
Kitty
