2020 Turner Syndrome Awareness Blog Hop

Hello Blogging Friends! It's good to see you. I invite you to follow me if you are not already too busy on the computer. (smile)

Turner Syndrome is a genetic disorder leaving a girl baby with only one X chromosome, instead of two. These children (and adults) contend with life-long medical issues and learning disabilities. Occurring once in every 2,500 female births worldwide, it is more common for pregnancies to not survive full term. That is why TS live births are considered MIRACLES.

Thirty-six caring Sponsors and nine DT Members are offering prizes to commenters to bring Turner Syndrome Awareness to the Public. For details on how you might win any of these fabulous prizes, please see Lori's TS home page. Thanks for learning About Turner Syndrome

Prize Winners will be announced February 15, 2020, on the TSA blog. The winner of my personal prize will be announced on my blog after February 8.

My Personal Prize:

My TS related projects are inspired by the TSA official color board:

To achieve that rich black, glossy cardstock was used.
Wink of Stella was applied to the butterfly and birthday word.

A flower on the butterfly's body adds a feminine touch:

Living with Turner Syndrome: Linda Hunt

I am an appreciative fan of movie star
Linda Hunt
whose roles are always character-rich.
My favorite programs Linda has starred in:

NCIS Los Angeles
Kindergarten Cop

Linda was born with Turner Syndrome.

One thing I have learned regarding Turner Syndrome is that there are many chromosomal deviations that cause humans to be born with "interesting outcomes".

Here is the genetic graph for girls and boys born with KNOWN abnormal chromosomes.
Next time we see a person who doesn't seem to fit a "normal" male or female pattern, we need to keep in mind that genetics plays a huge part in ALL OF OUR biological "development", which has nothing to do with a person's lifestyle choices:

After reading the above sentiments regarding acceptance and kindness, you will understand why the word KINDNESS was superimposed on the butterfly:

Remember to visit the "It's A Girl Thing" Turner Syndrome Awareness Blog Hop 2020  page to become eligible for prizes.
Thanks for joining us in the blog hop!

Both your cards are beautiful. I love your kindness one especially, people in general should be less judgemental and more kind to others. No one else knows what struggles we have had to overcome to be the people we are today.

Can I just say on the bloghop I have seen some lovely comments from you for the other participants. That really is lovely. We in the crafting community (and life in general) should lift people more in just being nice to others. I just wanted you to know that it has been noticed :)

  89. DELIGHTFUL cards Donna!
Apart from being WONDERFUL to look at, I appreciate them all the MORE for knowing the thought and KINDNESS that included in the design!
I hopped along last year and learnt such a lot about Turner Syndrome. There are so many aspects to this genetic disorder that it is almost overwhelming, especially when we remember that less than 2% of babies conceived survive to birth, precious girls that face the challenges each day with their families. It was fascinating to learn that an actress that I admire is living with this genetic disorder. It is amazing how adversity brings out the strength and BEST in people!
    THANK YOU for sharing :)
PS - please don't include me in your prize draw, I am enjoying my hopping, learning and being inspired along the way

  93. Oh, Donna, I'm sorry to be so late in commenting, getting back into everything after the wedding. Your butterfly cards are fabulous!!!! The flower center is perfect. So so pretty. Your post about this condition is sobering but you touch on something that I learned in my research concerning loved ones in my family with a hereditary form of bipolar. It's a fricking miracle that everyone isn't chromosomally challenged or chemically imbalanced in some way, and I suspect we are! My heart goes out to those afflicted and made to feel abnormal. The wisdom is none of us are truly normal. XOX

    ReplyDelete
  94. As usual, LOVE your card designs. The choice of black and pink make a striking appearance. Especially like the sentiment of "kindness". That is important for all of us.

  95. Hi, Donna....
Your cards are soooooooo beautiful!! I adore the pink and black together, esp with the beautiful shine you added. Kindness is such an appropriate sentiment!
I didn't know Linda Hunt was born with Turner Syndrome. Although I hopped along last year, I had forgotten that 99% of conceptions with Turner Syndrome do not survive until birth. They really are miracles!!
