Flying Free {Dies R Us}

Good Morning, Sweet Crafty Friends!
So glad you could stop by for a little feathery Dies R Us Inspiration!

Today's card utilizes simple layering techniques yet is FLAT for mailing!

(so we can use our papers and dies without adding bulk and thickness)

My card uses the following Dies R Us Products:

Memory Box Contempo Birds #30017
Spellbinders - Grand Scallop Squares
Spellbinders - Curved Rectangles (interior)
Sizzix - Branch with Leaves

The bird cage is slightly off-set with white to create a shadow.
By the way, this Impression Obsession Bird Cage cuts like butter!

The little Contempo Birds are in three pieces, and face both directions.
The layers have been "distressed" with Mowed Lawn Distress Ink to give each tiny piece a little depth.

The Sizzix Branch with Leaves is layered with Olive vellum and River Rock cardstock.
This allows the vellum to be invisibly adhered to the cardstock behind it.

(the feathers have been glued on the card base, and the white layer is glued directly on top of the feathers and base of card - no dimensionals were used anywhere.

The letters were stamped in VersaMark, and a different color EP was used on each letter before fussy cutting.

The flat layering continues on the inside:

Thanks for stopping by today!

Other Products:

  • Sparkle N Sprinkle: Madagascar Green Cosmic EP, Ice Rink EP, Bullfrog EP (letters FLY)
  • Paper: KandCompany, Rust, Tan, Olive Vellum, White, River Rock
  • Stamps: Hero Arts Alphabet Upper Case Letters
  • Feathers
  • Inks: Mowed Lawn and Crushed Olive Dye, VersaMark Pigment

Hugs,

This is absolutely stunning, Donna!! I love how you've added such dimension with the layers but managed to keep it flat!! Amazing!! The bird and cage are so beautiful!! I have those birds and haven't used them in forever...you've inspired me to let them out of the cage to fly ;) Beautiful papers, too!! Love, love this my friend!! Have a great day!! Big hugs :)

Beautiful card Donna, I love everything about it! I particularly love how you have off set the bird cage to give the shadow effect, such a clever idea.
Just shows you don't need to use foam pads or silicon glue to give dimension, it's perfect - flat.

I love how your birds are flying free. They're absolutely beautiful. The whole card is beautiful. I was thinking about using these birds with some birdcage dies I have, but my birds would have to be flying free, too. So pretty with the designer paper and die cut leaves. The feathers are brilliant. I always forget to use my feathers, dang it. Again you inspire me!

This is so pretty, Donna, such a lovely dimensional look created and love the paper you've used and how everything blends together so perfectly on this card. My visits will be a bit sporadic until start July, so much to prepare before going on holidays:)

This is total genius! So much dimension, without using dimensionals! Love the added vellum to the leaves, it really adds so much to the finished product and how did your fingers manage to color all those little bird parts? Really a beautiful piece Donna!

So very pretty with this lovely patterned paper. I never know how to use some of the larger designs, and this works so nicely with the great dies. (some of which I have! Yay!). Great work on combining these different elements to make a pretty and easily mailed card. Will have to relook through some of my large patterns - especially the bird ones. Just LOVE this one! TFS
